How long does it usually take to book a destination wedding? 1 year? How about in 2 years? After planning hundreds of weddings per year, we have come to a very important bottom line: all couples are different.
It doesn´t matter if you wish to book 3 years in advance or 2 months in advance, we have got it covered. There are only so many factors that go into a wedding, to name a few; flowers, food, dress, cake, photographer, venue, colors and decorations.
Now imagine planning all of this in only 72 hours, yes you read that right, 72 hours. Not 72 days, not 72 weeks, but only 72 hours! Well, we made it happen and it all started on a Tuesday afternoon.
Last Tuesday afternoon we received an unusual request, as a bride was inquiring about availability for Friday, for that same Friday. Now, even though January is a very busy month for weddings in the beautiful Las Caletas beach, which is located in warm Puerto Vallarta, we were lucky to have availability on such short notice.
So what did we do? We got to work! Our amazing Adventure Weddings team did the unthinkable yet not impossible. We contacted our future bride in no time, who let us know her fiancé and her were in town and decided to have an elopement wedding, how cool! Once we explained in a very brief yet precise way of how we would make this work, it was only Wednesday and the adventurous couple had booked their Barefoot ceremony with Adventure Weddings and was already working with our coordinators.
The date and time were set, Friday at 8:00am was the meeting time for our couple to begin this adventure. Our wonderful coordinator had 24 hours to arrange a wedding, a beautiful barefoot ceremony for 2, on a hideaway beach which is only reached by boat.
Flowers & Decorations:
As they say, there is beauty in simplicity, and even though simple was key in this wedding planning, beauty was definitely achieved. For their reception they chose wood exposed tables & chairs with white table runners and napkins.
For the flowers, they chose an adorable combination of white and greenery, using mostly white roses, eucalyptus and gypso for the boutonniere, bouquet & centerpiece. The bride also wore a gorgeous flower crown made by our florists using only baby’s breath. However, we are sure no matter what flowers she chose, her happiness was glowing at all times.
There is always time for cake, which in order to match the theme was a naked, vanilla frosted, 1 tier oh so delicious cake with a couple of white roses on the top.

The entire day was magical, their love and happiness was glowing every minute. Not only did we manage this “express” booking and planning, however they made our week by sharing this amazing love story and allowing us to be part of it.

Hi everyone! I recently got engaged to the love of my life and just barely started planning! Ive always dreamed of a destination beach wedding and thought Bermuda would be perfect since its only a 3hr flight away. We both have huge families and am probably looking at a min of 100guests. I would love an Oceanside resort however i know mosts resorts require most if not all of the guests to stay at that resort and not sure i want to tell my guests on where they need to stay. Im aiming for Wedding to be in Sept/ October of 2018. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!
We have been planning a wedding at the Paradisus Hotel in Cancun for about a year. The wedding took place on May 28, 2017. 120 people came from all over the world to celebrate with us. We had 50 rooms at the hotel.
The person from the Romance department that worked with us was Melina Andrea Guerrero Rios. She was horrible!!!!! Words can not describe the aggravation we had all this year and especially the weekend of the wedding. Melina Andrea Guerrero Rios is unprofessional, does not have a clue how to organize a wedding, we don't understand how she got to this position. She did NOTHING we asked for. Melina Andrea Guerrero Rios over charged us for things she didn't do!!!! We paid $3500 for flowers, and two hours before the wedding Melina tells us that she did not order the flowers and ended up just putting some ugly flower arrangements throughout the wedding area not the flowers that we paid for.
Melina Andrea Guerrero Rios came in the middle of the ceremony and asked us to sign papers for extras putting us in a tight spot where we couldn't even look at what the terms and conditions of those extras were, forcing us to sign minutes before the ceremony under stress and committing to payments that we were not aware of. Melina Andrea Guerrero Rios pulled out the plug of our music in the middle of the reception and asked for extra $2000usd if we wanted to continue for another hour, when asking her to show the contract where the time was stated she pulled out a paper that had the time in very small print without our signature on it, our signature was on all the other pages except that one surprisingly!!! Worst experience ever!!!!! She made the bride and groom very upset!!!! If that wasn't enough we had so many problems with the rooms. Many of our guests had to switch rooms including the bride and groom. Some rooms did not have air conditioning for three days in a row, one room had a leaky air conditioning causing the floor to get wet causing the groom to slip and hurt his arm. The hotel itself has no air conditioning in the lobby at all, or in any of the restaurants in the hotel, the hotel is built with an open top so that they can have airflow but in Cancun with 100% humidity that's just not enough.
Finally after the horrific ordeal with Melina, when we requested to have the centerpieces (valued over $3000) that we provided returned to us, Melina claimed that it's in the contract that we need to pick up the centerpieces immediately as soon as the wedding is over, and now they are lost, (you really expect a bride and groom or family members to start collecting centerpieces in the midst of their celebration?). A day later when we came into Melina's office to discuss the ordeal she had a bunch of our centerpieces sitting in her office, she never bothered to call us and let us know that she found some of them, not even 10% of what we provided.
Finally after being told by Melina that she does not have a supervisor and there is nobody above her that we can talk too we got to one of the hotel managers Mario and after we presented to Mario a bunch of the emails that support all of our claims and all of our complaints including the flowers that we have paid for and ordered, his resolution to all this BS that we had to deal with, was to offer the bride and groom two nights stay at the hotel. The condition was that they would accept this as satisfactory, sign away any rights to future claims and not place any bad reviews about what has happened. Refusing to offer a refund for the stuff that was not provided per our contract. Obviously we refused
So if you are planning a wedding in Paradisus Cancun I would recommend to think again, and definitely for sure not to work with Melina Andrea Guerrero Rios!!!!!!
In all honesty there are some excellent staff members at the hotel namely Tabata Who is in charge of the pool area and the Coco club beach cabanas and her amazing staff such as Manuel who treated us like royalty.

Hello everyone! So I recently got engaged to the love of my life and just started the planning. However, I haven't picked a location and I'm already stressed! He wants to tie the knot in Mexico and having that we love to party we heard Cancun is the way to go. The more I search the more indecisive I am and my options just expand. My fiance and I got engaged on Labor Day weekend 2016, and since then it has been a roller coaster of emotions trying to decide a location.
I am currently a full-time nursing student, and trying to accomplish both was driving me insane. So early on I found a wonderful TA and focused on school while she took the information we shared with her and did some research.
Thank heavens she did, because the amount of time I spent staring at screens reading reviews, looking at photos, and messaging people that had vacationed in Mexico and the Caribbean was overwhelming. Finally, with our TA's amazing help, we narrowed it down to three and then pretty quickly to two.
Now I am torn. With every good review, there is a negative one. Any time I think I find a flaw in one resort, the same flaw pops up in the other. Hyatt Ziva Cancun and Dreams Tulum are both gorgeous, yet quite different. Instead of asking myself which I love more I constantly wonder which one my guests will love more. Which one will have them walking away in awe of what they experienced. Now that I have the costs I still don't know what to do. So here i am, ready to read through as many forums as possible on these locations in hopes there is another bride out there that wants nearly the same things I do that is basically reading my mind and has made the decision first.

Some couples bring cardstock with a list of guests per table that we can hang at the entrance of our reception area. Nicole and Nick went a step further and attached a cute, old-fashioned key to each — it looked classic and lovely!

I would love any feedback, suggestions, ideas, do-don'ts; or any direction from anyone who has had their wedding and or planning their wedding at this lovely resort! I look forward to planning via BDW and sharing and gathering information to make this even more of a dream come true! Also, I'm debating about photographers and outside DJ's. I'm almost 100% certain that we are obtaining an outside photographer, but I'm still debating on the DJ? Suggestions? Best
If you have got the ring on your finger, it's time to plan for your wedding. Destination weddings are all the rage now because it allows you to tailor a ceremony that you have always dreamed of. You have the freedom to keep the affair intimate and private, or go all out and have an OTT big fat Indian wedding.
Traditional weddings offer you the luxury of familiarity. You know everything from the best venues and locations for various ceremonies, to most creative dress designers to trustworthy jewelers. You also know everyone from light guy and décor person to caterer on a first name basis. You also will get reliable, trustworthy and bankable references from friends, family and relatives on every vendor you want to work with. But in a destination wedding you would not have any of these.
While planning your dream wedding hundreds or thousands of miles away, you need to put in extra effort to ensure everything goes according to plan.
1) Choose the Right Location
Location is of utmost importance if you want to pull off a successful destination wedding. There are several factors to consider, least of all being whether you are a beach girl or a mountain buff. Of course that matters, but you also need to weigh the accessibility of the place, cost, availability of facilities, budget and time requirements.
Destination weddings allow you to plan a ceremony that reflects your personality as a couple, as well as your individual interests and preferences. If both of you enjoy adventure and outdoors, you can plan your wedding in Costa Rica, Nepal, Machu Picchu, Kenya, South Africa or Australia. These countries are famed for their gorgeous outdoors where you can have the time of your lives. If you are both foodies, consider the wine country Chianti in Italy or the Californian vineyards. Beach lovers have amazing options ranging from budget-friendly South America, Thailand and Maldives to more exotic locales in Bahamas, Peru, Italy and France.
2) Think About Logistics
If you are planning on a traditional ceremony you will require florists, décor specialists, specialised caterers, suppliers of religious or ethnic paraphernalia like puja arrangements, and of course, stylists and makeup professionals. Finding specialised manpower will not be easy if you are opting for far-flung and exclusive locations. And if available, they will definitely charge a premium. Flying in professionals from your home town again will prove expensive and stressful. So do take these factors into consideration when deciding on the venue.
3) Choose the Right Time
Time your destination wedding carefully in order to not clash with high-demand tourist season or other important events or national holidays in the host town when businesses shut down for extended periods. This is applicable in big cities as well where you will be greeted by empty streets and closed businesses during holiday season. During off-season also you will find many establishments closed in tourist locales.
Check the weather conditions in the location and decide whether they will be apt for the type of ceremony you have planned.
If you have chosen a popular tourist spot, try to push your wedding to the shoulder season (the months just after the peak tourist season). This will help you save money on hotel bookings and travel. If you must have your wedding during the peak season, plan well in advance and pre-book hotels, vendors and venues by at least a year.
4) Get Your Trousseau Ready
With destination weddings, you cannot afford to leave anything for the last minute.
Decide on your wedding outfits and get started with fitting sessions as early as possible. Coordinating bride-groom ensembles, shopping for the rest of the trousseau, deciding on jewelry for various events, and attending to the bridesmaid outfits all will take up quite a lot of time.
As mentioned earlier, the weather plays a very important role in destination weddings, especially if you are planning an outdoor event. Choose outfits and jewelry that will give the right vibe in the natural settings of the location.
Reserve heavy jewelry and traditional outfits for the main ceremony. For all other functions go light and fun, with floral ornaments or delicate diamond necklaces and bangles. They will also help you move freely and enjoy the occasion.
5) Take into Consideration Extra Expenses
Extra expenses occur in local weddings also. But in a long-distance affair it will be on a much larger scale. Scrupulous planning and excellent organisational skills are essential to ensure that you do not blow your wedding budget sky high.
If you are importing everything from florists to choreographers, then mark at least 10%-15% of total budget to cover unexpected expenses. Welcome bags for guests, activities and games you plan for them, local transport, special needs like dry cleaning, babysitting, medical emergencies, and other miscellaneous costs can all add up pretty quickly. Make sure you have planned your budget accordingly.
Also, remember that taking help from a local wedding planner is sensible if you are on a tight budget. This will save you money because planners from home will have to make at least a couple of visits to the location prior to the actual wedding. Local planners will help you choose local and cost-friendly options as far as food, drink and other needs are concerned. If you are going for a planner from home, choose one that has experience organising weddings in the same destination.

Designing such an important Book is a great responsibility, that is why I put all the love and care as if it is for myself.
The Young Book (my personal favorite) comes in a beautiful box, which can be personalized with a choice of texture and available colors. There are hundreds of combinations to make it perfect just for you. Also, inside the lid of the box, we can write a phrase and place one of the most significant photos of that special day.
In case the couple can't decide over the many color combinations, and if they allow me, I present a beautiful combination considering details I see on the wedding photos, I get inspired by bridesmaids' dresses, groom's tie, bridal bouquet, decoration, theme colors, among other details. I usually come up with at least two choices for each the album's exterior design and the box.
When designing the interior of the Luxury Book, I choose one of the most stunning photos of the wedding, and then I continue to display the photos in order just as that day went (getting ready, ceremony, family photos, session with bride and groom, and the party)
In the Young Book, when you open it, the display is lay-flat, allowing a panoramic view (for example, a group photo can be 60x20 cm size), which allows to see perfectly the faces of every single person on the photo.
Most of our costumers love my designs at first sight, and I rarely get asked for a few changes. Of course there have been a few exceptions, but I can say that 80 percent of the times I succeed with the design.
Once the Luxury Book gets the newlyweds' approval, I send it to production to Italy. The album will get home directly from Italy.
My greatest satisfaction, once the wedded couple have already received their wedding album, is to know through them that every dollar they spent was definitely worth it.

We hosted a Hindu wedding for a couple and the celebration lasted 3 days!!! We loved the professional henna artwork that the bride and her entire family wore on their hands and feet. In the Hindu culture, it is believed that henna enhances the beauty of the bride – and we definitely agree!
2.Wedding Party Customs
Bring together traditions from each background for the wedding party. You can add small symbols that represent each culture on the bouquet or the boutonniere. Or have the wedding party arrive in a traditional fashion. In the Hindu wedding, the groom arrived to the wedding with his family and closest friends in an incredible parade that included traditional singing and dancing. The entrance represented the happiness the groom and his family felt toward the new bride.
3. Blending Ceremonial Traditions
In Jewish weddings, the couple breaks a glass together to be reminded of the fragility of relationships. In the Filipino culture, they include a money dance. At our Hindu favorite, they included a Ganesh Puja ritual for good luck. Ganesh represented the destruction of all obstacles. It may not be feasible to include ALL of the traditions of both the bride’s culture and the groom’s culture – but pick the traditions that will be the most meaningful and respectful to you and your family.

#1: List the Participants
First, make a detailed list of participants to include. Make sure the people you both feel closest with, are included. Keep in mind: do not over-do it! The idea is to keep the list within the bridal party and a few family members not to bore the rest of the guests with the processional.
#2: Fiancé Entrance
Traditional or Non Traditional
The next step is to consider if you want your fiancé to walk down the aisle or to wait for you at the alter. Some grooms prefer to wait for their bride, whereas others want to make an entrance as well — so this is something you definitely want to decide together. Our beach wedding venue gives a casual feel to the ceremony and some couples feel inspired to go outside of the norm — we’ve even had grooms who walked down the aisle to funky music, which created a lot of excitement for their guests!
#3 Consider Pairs or Singles
Back to a traditional ceremony… if you have the same number of bridesmaids and groomsmen, consider having them walk in pairs. Walking individually does work for smaller processionals, especially if there are no more than 6 people.
If you must have an uneven number, have the extra groomsmen or bridesmaid lead the bridal party, walking alone.
The order is up to you, you could have your Maid of Honor and Best Man walking in first or last just as long the rest of the bridal party knows they will be standing from the outside in, that way you and your fiancée will have them standing right next.
If you chose to have kids participate in the ceremony, you have a couple of options: If you want each child to have their own moment, you could have the ring bearer walk down the aisle and then the flower girl. Or they could walk together so they can hold hands (this is also a good idea if you have a really young child since, the older one can lead and help to keep the procession going).
One of the cutest wedding ideas we’ve seen is when one of the children walking down the aisle holds a sign that reads something like: “Here comes your bride!” Or even a funny phrase like, “Last chance to run!” Which your guests will love and it will also make wonderful pictures!
Or for a wow factor, in our case we have a parrot that can deliver the wedding rings! From our experience this brings a lot of surprise and excitement to the wedding ceremony.
#4 How will you enter?
And for the big moment: you, the bride, walking down the aisle. You can choose to walk the aisle with your dad or both your parents. If that is not an option consider having any other person dear to you to be holding your hand in such as special moment. Some brides even choose to enter the aisle alone.
Every option is correct and we suggest you to choose the one that makes you feel the most comfortable and happy for your big day!
