  1. So...I'm seriously considering Paradisus - but I'm nervous about the TripAdvisor reviews and haven't gotten a response from them yet. As such - just a couple of quick questions. Do they allow outside photogs? What is the beach like? What is the reception like for the Chill Out Chic? Beach? Private? Semi-Private? Thanks!!
  2. No, I didn't look at any non-resort options. To be honest, the whole point of us doing it in Cancun was to have it easy-breezy. I tried to plan in New Orleans and here in Colorado - but it kept getting insanely expensive with all the seperate locations and outside catering. I wanted to find a place that had packages (which Ritz claims to, but doesn't really) and was nice enough for me to feel comfortable with. I just figured, it's the Ritz, they probably won't screw it up. However....you have to work with the Catering Manager to get anywhere at Ritz - and this is a problem. The catering manager doesn't really care about you if you're going to have a simple reception in a restaurant (which is what we want since they have a restaurant on the beach) - so it seems to be pulling teeth to get the date info I need. Sigh. As such, we're looking at some AIs as a back-up. I'm not really sure where to start, but I'm using this forum as a guide. I really want it all packaged up and ready to go - but with my own photog. I don't really care about colors or favors or flowers or spa packages or centerpieces - I just want to be on the beach and have a reception with great food! Sigh.
  3. So...I'm seriously considering ERC - but haven't gotten a response from them on anything yet. As such - just a couple of quick questions - do you ladies know what the deposit is to reserve a room (if they don't require a deposit for the wedding, just your confirmation #, I'm assuming there is a deposit or full payment)? Do they allow outside photogs? What is the reception like for the Gold Package? Beach? Private? Semi-Private? Thanks!!
  4. Thank you so much for your review! I've been looking for some more information on RPLA. Could I ask - how many guests did you end up with? Which package (if any) did you choose? Thanks again!! Megan
  5. We're getting our license in Colorado beforehand - and having the ceremony in Cancun. Colorado has a weird option for marriage licenses (which is SUPER cool in my opinion) in that you do not need an officiant - you can "marry yourselves." So - we'll get the license, do the ceremony in MX, sign it afterwards - and there we are! So I'm sure Texas is different - but I like the idea of the easy breezy US process to the crazy MX process. Not only do you have to have the blood tests, extra expense for the officiant and all, but you'll also have to cross your fingers and wait for the paperwork. Ick. Just my 2 cents!
  6. Dolphin - indeed - toss those worries away!! I would say 6 or 6:30 is perfect - usually you want to end about 30m before sunset - so you're golden with a 7:30 sunset
  7. It looks like we'll end up with a non-AI at the Ritz. Really, it came down to money. If I choose a super-nice resort, there is a good chance most people can't afford it (Le Blanc at 500/nt, Royal is just a little less) and if I choose an average resort, then I feel like I'll be spending money trying to make the place look better/food taste better, and I don't know if that's where I wanted to spend it. So, for us, we decided a beach location, fab food, an outside photog and no requirements for guests to stay at the hotel were all important to us. Strangely, the Ritz fit the bill, and at the correct price point. I can provide more info if you're interested For other resorts - the Marriots are not AI, but they probably will want the bridal couple to stay at the hotel (or one of them. I think you can stay at CasaMagna and get married at JW.) There are also dinner cruise options (rent out the boat) or public beaches/restaurant options all over. PM me if I can help! I'm just as confused as anyone, but I have lots of info!
  8. Thanks so much Tina! That's really helpful. I've been in contact with Gaby and hope to get our date nailed down this week. Looks like July 4 - so we'll always have fireworks on our anniversary (well....except this year, since we'll be in Mexico Last night my future MIL suggested Vegas - and by "suggested" - I mean demanded. Geez. Where are these people when you're actually asking for advice/opinions? After I made up my mind to go to Cancun, she starts the Vegas talk?! Ugh. Thanks again everyone!
  9. Tina and Lucy - I'm considering the same - 20-25 people in the gazebo, cocktail hour on the terrace, dinner on the beach. But - eek - I don't know where to start or how crazy expensive I'm talking! I received some info from Gaby - so I know what the packages are, but I'm not sure of the little upgrades (looking at the Ultimate Wedding Package). Can you guys give me an idea of your budgets/upgrades (if you feel comfortable - I understand if you don't!) Thanks!! M
  10. I guess I just have that fear that no one is getting married at Royal Cancun - and that make me quite nervous. Don't want to rule it out, but my guess is that we will if it seems no one gets married there. I wonder why that is..... Thanks!
  11. Does anyone have pricing for the cermony packages? The packages are listed on the website, but no pricing. When I try to communicate with the Ritz, they won't give me a quote based on the packages listed online. Really weird. Thanks!
  12. Hi all! I'm very seriously considering the Royal Cancun (not to be confused with Playa del Carmen) for 7/4/09. When looking for info or other couples considering the Royal Cancun - I could not seem to find anything specific to Cancun! So...here it is. I'm uploading some attachements for the packages at the Royal - and I am available for PM if you have specific questions. I also had this crazy idea that maybe there is another bride on here looking at 7/4/09 in Cancun, and maybe we could help each other! Also, I received information from just about every hotel in Cancun - so if you need it - let me know. I'm happy to be your one-stop-shop! 13. Check out Le Blanc in Cancun. Beautiful hotel - #2 on TripAdvisor - and they have a free package. Good luck!
