  1. I think Anabel is the girl I met that was with Lizette. Lizette was in the process of training her when she met up with me at the Barcelo. She seemed nice but her English wasn't that great. Lizette's English is very good. I learned that she went to Texas for High school which is good since she translated our wedding!

But they do try to block people off and tell them to walk another way. Also the walk to the middle of the beach seemed a bit long and you have to walk pass the showers, which I thought wasn't so nice. But there is a bit of rocks in the ocean in that area so it gives it more interest.

I just had a date confirmation with Dreams and the wedding/price guide that they sent me. I was not quite sure which package to go with but ended up taking the free package ans adding a few things. Lizet told me that all pricing should be the same as the guide or they will work out something comparable. I wanted to add photo and video and was able to work something out somehting comparable with the Barcelo's resort photographers. The photographers were really nice but be warned they don't have a credit card machine setup yet and we had to pay by cash. Hopes this helps. Amanda.
  5. Hi There Gals, Here is a quick review of what I thought of the Barcelo Maya Palace: The Resort: The resort itself is very beautiful. The Palace is connected to the the Tropical and the Colonial and since we stayed at the Palace we had access to all 3 resorts amenities. There is a tram that takes you back and forth between the hotels. However, I found the tram to be infrequent after 2:00pm. The walk isn't too bad as we had to walk there for our appointment with the doctor for our blood test. The Palace is definitely an upgrade from the other resorts. It is new, opened in December of 2007. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Karen at the front desk is great. The room that we got was large and had a king bed with a sitting area with two sofas. It had a flat screen TV and a long vanity table. The bathroom was really nice. It had both a tub and a separate shower area and two sinks. There are 3 restaurants and 3 buffets. The food was very tasty. We had our reception at the French restaurant and it was great as we had all the steak and lobster that we wanted. As for those looking at the roof top option, there is an area there that you could possibly use as an ceremony location but I think could only sit about approx. 20-30 guests. Not too sure about it being too private though as just down the hall way is the lobby and it's also a walkway to the buffet restaurants but they might block it off and tell people to go around outside to the the buffet. I've seen the area setup for a cocktail hour and looked very lovely. The wedding: I met with Lizet on the Monday in the lobby. Sandra came with her and they both went with me and the wedding coordinator at the Barcelo( Gabby) to look at the different sites for the ceremony. I wanted an outdoor wedding so my options where the gazebo or the beach. The beach had two locations. Although the gazebo was beautiful I felt that it wasn't too private. There would be too much people staring at us as there was a walkway right beside it. Also I wanted a beach wedding so we decided on the beach location that was a little left to the gazebo. It was a little beach area that was a little bit away from the main beach and had a few trees around it. Also there was a small cliff. The other beach location was right in the center of the main beach. After I decided on the location I sat down with Lizet and went over the wedding details. I got the same date as promised and could of had the same time of 2:00pm as I originally had with Dreams Tulum but decided to move it to a later time so as it would not be as hot for my guests. They only had my wedding for that date so that was great. All pricing will be the same as what Dreams Tulum was offering. I was going with the free package so I only had to pay for the flowers in my hair that I wanted and to upgrade my cake. The free package only had a cake for 10 and I had 17 guests. We had a huge cake 3 tier for only $35! I wish it was as cheap back home to get a cake. Also we did not get charged $20 a person for having our reception dinner at the French restaurant. The guests were not forced to have a set dinner and could order whatever they wanted off the menu. So we ended up saving a bit of money. The setup of the ceremony was beautiful. I bought my own Tulle as I wanted a setup the same as SunBride but was not sure if they could do it as I had no idea what the resort looked like but I bought it with me anyway. Lizet used them on my chairs and they bought in an arch and she draped it with the tulle and made a flower aisle/walkway that I liked that SunBride had but with different coloured flowers. I will try to post some pics soon. My bouquet was beautiful. I was sad to leave it there as I couldn't take it on the plane. Overall, it was what I dreamed it to be and I couldn't be anymore happier. I 'm sure I'm missing a few things that some of you are wondering about. Let me know and I'll see if I can answer any questions. Hoped this helped ease some of your worries. Best of Luck, Piggy (Amanda).
  6. Hi There, I will post a review soon. I have my home reception this weekend so am very busy right now. But don't worry, I will write up a review once I get time. Also don't worry about the drinks. We ordered anything we wanted and it was all included. I will get back to you gals soon.
  7. Hi There Ladies, Just wanted to reassure those of you that have been moved to the Barcelo Mayan Palace not to worry. It's a beautiful resort and your wedding will be beautiful. I was originally to be married at Dreams Tulum on October 9th but found out two days before we were to leave that we would be relocated. It was such a mess and very distressing but in the end it all worked out for the best. All of us were very pleased with Barcelo and Lizette was super. Also the spa did a fantastic job with my hair and makeup and the resort photographers were super nice. If we go back to the Riveria Maya area we will surely stay at the Barcelo.
  8. Hi There Ladies, I've been dealing with this all day long. Calling Expedia to see what they can do for us, calling the hotel, calling AM resorts, calling my guests TA and still have not gotten an answer as to where my group will be staying. It is all very frustrating especially when we are leaving to go to Mexico this weekend! We were told that we should know by tomorrow. I really hope they get back to us soon as we have arranged transfers from the airport to Dreams Tulum and I need to revise those before I leave. What a mess.

It's fun to keep track of who is coming up next, and then we have all the links to reviews and pictures in one place. Hi SunBride, Yes, I am reserved at DT. My Date is Oct.9, 2008. I do see that I am on the list. I love your photos and the decor for the gazebo. I'm thinking about doing the same thing but with a sage green colour instead. Not too sure about the starfish though as they will take up a lot of luggage space. They would be nice to have though.
  11. Hi There Ladies, Could those of you that used the resort photographer and videographer how long did it take to get your photos and video back? Do you get them before you leave or are they mailed out? We are having a reception when we get back and I would like to have a slide show at the reception. Thanks.
  12. Both are nice but I voted for the straw bag as I think it will be used more often after the wedding.
  13. Hi All! I'm a new member and am glad of all the information available here. I have just started the planning process and this is a really big help. Thanks to everyone for posting valuable information. You guys are a lifesaver. My wedding date is set for Oct.9th at Dreams Tulum and other then booking the date with Landy I have not done anything else. Do I have to start requesting things before I get there or can it all be done when I arrive? Any advice you can offer will be much appreciated. Thanks, Amanda.
