  1. I do not have a lot of experience with these hotels, however something that is important for you to keep in mind is location. The Riu Riviera Maya is located in Playacar. This is the hotelzone of Playa del Carmen and very close to downtown. The Barcelo hotel is about 30 min south of Playa del Carmen. If you like to go into town once in a while, this is definitely something to take into consideration. Good luck with your decision.
  2. The following flowers usually have the best availability: Roses, Gerber Daisies, Lillies, Alstroemeria, Solidago, Lysianthus, Birds of paradise, Dendrobium orchids (need to be ordered ahead of time), green hydrangeas (need to be ordered ahead of time), iris, carnations, daisies, gladiolas (need to be ordered ahead of time), liatris, star of bethlehem, button mums & spider moms (creme and yellow available), white calla lillies (alcatraz), larkspur, babies breath, delphinium (can be seasonal), asters. Orchids such as cymbidiums have to be pre ordered at least one month before and they are shipped in from either Mexico City or The Netherlands. They have a fee of approximetely $20 a flower. Colored calla lillies are also available, but need to be preordered as well. They are a bit more expensive, i am not sure of the exact fee, but quite reasonable. I believe you could even get tulips, however I never suggest using these. Our experience is that they do not withstand the heath that well. Please dont hesitate to contact me if there is anything I can help with!

  4. Welcome back to the forum. We work with a great travel agent in Canada and would be happy to put you in touch with them. Feel free to contact us if you would be interested in receiving their contact information. Good luck!
  5. Peonies and orchids are not native for this area and they both have to be shipped in. Therefore the price is usually more expensive then other flowers such as roses. Orchids are available, however they will always need to be pre ordered. they are usually shipped from Mexico City and have a fee of $20 each flower. Peonies are not easy to find. I have never seen them here and think they are not available. You might indeed be able to ship them in from Holland however this is probably very expensive. THe other problem could be that they might not withstand the heath and humidity of this area. I hope this information helps.
  6. Congratulations and welcome to the forum! There are a lot of great all inclusives in Playa del Carmen and the rest of the Riviera Maya area. If you would prefer not to have a lot of travel from your hotel to the ceremony site you probably want to keep your hotel close to Playa del Carmen or Xcaret. There are many different options and I am sure you will be able to find the perfect location for you and your guests. Feel free to contact us if there is anything we can help you with. Good luck with your planning.
  7. THere are a lot of very nice hotels in the area, that can accomodate your guests. it also depends on if you would like an all inclusive or prefer a non all inclusive, such as Shangri La. It is definitely a very nice hotel and a shame that it is closen. If you are not able to find a hotel that suits your wishes for your dream wedding, you can also look into the options to do your wedding and reception outside of the hotel you are staying at. There are some very pretty and more secluded beaches available in Playacar and the Riviera Maya that are perfect for a wedding. Good luck with the search!
  8. The judge we work with, usually gives bride and groom some time to do their personal vows. Usually there is no space to do readings etc in the actual ceremony. This is due to the fact that her calendar books up quickly and many times she has to leave right after the ceremony. When this is the case, we usually suggest to do the readings right after the actual ceremony. I would suggest you to check with your WC if the judge would allow you to incorporate the readings into the ceremony. I hope this information helps! Good luck.
  9. We have some clients stay at the Grand Palladium and they all had great experiences. Good luck with your planning!
  10. Hi Crystal, We do many civil ceremonies and the couples always receive their marriage licence right away. You can just take this licence to the registry office in order to have your marriage registered in the states. Please note that the licence you receive in Mexico is in spanish so you will need to have this translated before you can summit it in the States. I would suggest you check with your register office if there is a certain time limit for you to register your marriage. I have never heard that the licence was also send by mail afterwards and I would suggest you to check with your wedding coordinator at the hotel what the difference is between the licence that you receive and the one send by mail. I hope this information helps. Good luck.

  13. We have had clients struggle with the very same choice. Although it could give you more peace of mind to meet prospective coordinators face to face and see different sites up front, many clients have had success with phone interviews when their schedules have not allowed for an extended planning visit. Take care and please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
  14. We have also experienced that it is the easiest to fly in your own rabbi from the States. There is one rabbi available in Cancun, however he just moved here a couple of months ago and has mentioned he is not yet prepared to perform weddings. He also says that due to all the preparations that a jewish wedding implies, it is very complicated to have a jewish wedding outside of your own country. When you bring in your own rabbi, you can do all the preparation and talks with him up front. I hope this information helps. Good luck!
  15. Most of our clients decided to bring their items with them in the suitcase, as they experienced it was a lot more expensive to have it shipped then to pay for the extra luggage. I have experienced one time that a bride shipped me some items up front, but they were hold up at customs in Merida. It took some days before they were allowed to continue to Cancun. Fortunately they arrived on time, however this is always a risk. Be extra careful with items that are made in China, I have heard they are sometimes difficult to be shipped in. I believe it might be easier to bring them with you on the plane, as you can explain personally that you will not sell these items, however you will use them for your wedding. i hope this information helps.
