You wonderful ladies all seem to use the raffia fans and they look awesome.

Oriental Trading sells them for a great cost and the shipping to Canada (shockingly) isn't horrendous.

That said, I just can't stomach the room these are going to take - I need 45!  I have cups, maracas, centerpieces, treasure chest, pails, etc. and I don't have the room!

I am interested in the ones that fold up (paper/plastic). Michaels Crafts have some nice ones but even with a coupon they are pretty expensive - would cost me $45 IF I had a 50% off coupon.   Regular price is 15 fans for $30

Oriental Trading has a variety of options for the paper folding ones in a variety of colors and designs.

Anyone use these with success?   Is this a tacky option?

I wasn't going to do fans (I need to stop playing online!) but my fiance thinks it would be a good idea.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

hmm oh wow I didn't realize they take up so much space- i just figured they were flat. But I can see how 45 will be a lot- But i fell in love with the idea on here! I think a paper fan would be fine! At my friends recent wedding they had a cardboard-ish program on a big "popsicle stick" and I really appreciated it because it was so hot out! Have you ever thought about making those? I can't figure out now how to post a picture!

Yes they are flat, but 45 will add up! I bet they take the good majority of your suitcase.  45 tank tops would hehe!

I have seen those and considered them as they would be a super cheap DIY but I honestly don't like the idea of the program!  Everyone will have met by the time of the wedding and such, so I don't see why we would write their names on a card to remind everyone.  Just not my style, I find that more formal where I am somewhat informal!

ah makes sense, then by all means, I would get the fans you are talking about. I think they will be cool. I only want raffia because I want to attach a program

Awesome!  They are beautiful fans and will look fantastic.

I may not do a fan at all, but fiance likes the idea.  Maybe I see what I can find in town, but it's hard to beat Oriental Trading's prices.

I did some more hunting, and it seems a lot of ladies did the paper fans with wood handles (not plastic) so that makes me feel better!  They will be there to help fan people, I don't think they will be taken home as I doubt they will hold up at the cost they are sold for (IE ripping, etc.) It's not a favor more something to make them comfortable.

I like the look of the raffia fans, but decided they weren't necessary. I'm going to make program fans with the craft stick handles. I think they will be fairly light to pack and be cheap to make, and I'm going to dress them up with a ribbon

I agree most people will know everyone but I still like the idea of formally printing it for some reason :). And I'm going to also put a thank you note on it

I was wondering where you purchased your maracas? I recently decided I would like some as well but shipping to Canada is crazy!

Thanks,

Sara

Sara I got them from Amols as the cost is awesome. I shipped them to a border town in the states and went and picked them up. We were in Kelowna so the border was close or this wouldn't have saved money. I would have paid the $40 shipping though as they are worth it. If you don't need yellow i would not purchase them - I just did an assortment of colors but the yellow needs another coat of paint and they don't look as nice. But they still all look authentic thin paint or not. They chip easy too so don't expect 100% perfect maracas but for the price I have no regrets buying them. I'm sure they will be a hit.

That's 50 maracas. Will require a lot of luggage space!

Thanks! They look great!! I wish I had thought of this sooner. I was in Kelowna this summer too. I really don't need too many so $40 seems like a lot for shipping. But them the price if the maracas is so much better than anywhere else! Maybe they have other things I would like to buy too.

Thanks again!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
