I am getting married at the Marriott in November and having a reception at home in December - so I am not having a reception in Cancun, but.. I do want to take everyone to dinner at a nice restaurant. Any recommendations? I want something nice but not too formal.

There is a really fun restaurant in the hotel zone called Bling...I have not had the food but went their for drinks and loved it, it's right on the water.
Also, a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in the hotel zone.
And...you may have already considered this but there is a really beautiful italian restaurant at the JWMarriott (forget the name), also haven't had the food but checked it out on my sight visit.

Is there any particular style of food you are thinking of? How far away from the hotel are you willing to go?

One that comes to mind is Laguna Grill which is pretty close to the Marriott. They do Asian Fusion cuisine for relatively moderate prices. Or La Habichuela in downtown Cancun. Great Mayan/Mexican/Caribbean food with a beautiful outdoor seating garden.

I was thinking something that had a variety of food, steak, seafood, chicken. I did not want to have to go too far away from the Marriott, but if that is where the great restaurants are I am willing to make a reservation there.

I would totally reccomend La Dolce Vita. Its right across the street and it is amazing. Not too formal.

la dolce vita is great. we are probably going to have our welcome dinner there! my FMIL got a very quick response from them regarding our requests.

there is also another italian restaurant in the kulkulkan plaza where the ruth chris steakhouse is that is REALLY good. i'm trying to remember the name.....my FI and I went there last year and the food was amazing.

Ruth Chris' is excellent. Also try Hacienda Sisal in front of the Royal Sands, it is outstanding. If you sre looking for a "fun night" Perico's is very entertaining.
