here are some photos of the white gazebo area as requested:

the panoramic - ignore the "dip" - my hand isn't too steady..it's really a pretty  line in that area.

as for the wind- this area does stick out a little more into the ocean/on the beach than the casitas gazebos which are closer to the walkway, or the presidential or chapel gazebo which is a little more sheltered on one side. it's probably equally as windy as Gazebo 55 - which is to say, some days it's pretty windy, some days it isn't.

Tips:

Make sure you get reservations at least one night in Fuentes, the Culinary Theater. We really enjoyed our evenings there (we did it twice!). And of course D'Italia Casitas is still the best of their restaurants. We really enjoyed Kampai for breakfast & Lunch, and La Isla had a great lunch as well.

We saw several of the shows this time - do NOT miss the Circus show - it was really awesome! we also enjoyed the dance show - I think it's superstar or something like that, and the Mexican show was fun to watch too. we passed on the fire show since we saw it before (but it was good!).

Other/misc:

We had sunny mornings but cloudy afternoons, with some rain as well. Not the best weather, but we were in paradise and certainly made the best of it.

We didn't get to go out with Samba Catamaran to Isla Mujeres due to the weather - but the staff at EDR all had really good things to say about them. They were quick to refund our money after we had to scratch two attempts to go, and had great/fast communication prior to our trip, and I would definitely book with them again.

We did the 90 minute "membership" sales pitch and our concierge set up the anniversary package as our amenity - 2 free 25 min massages (which we upgraded to 80 minutes!), candle light dinner on the beach and the rose petal decorations in our room. the 90 minutes was worth our time, even though we had no intentions to buy into the program.

If you need a transport company to/from the airport - I can recommend cancuntransfers.com. we had a private ride, $82 for both of us, round trip. they were a bit hard to find in the chaos of sharks at the Cancun airport, but one of the airport security pointed us to him. they were on time for our pick up as well. no complaints, and not a shared ride!

If there are any questions I can answer, please don't hesitate to ask!

Glad you had a fun time!!!! I love the building you were in as well, we stayed in that one the first time we were there and its just so peaceful on that side.

Hi everyone,

We are having our reception at Tucanes. I understand the tables are round tables for 8 guests. We are planning on bringing down our own linen. What size tablecloths, runners, etc did you all use?

Also they say there is a maximum size of 76 people for Tucanes. Does that include space for the dance floor?

Thanks so much!

Hi Amanda,

we had the 12" x 108" runners, so 9' long. I think the tables are the 60" rounds. there will be plenty of room for a dance floor. they can fit twice as many tables under there as we had (for 35).  you can see how much extra space we had between our tables. the dance floor can spill out onto the pool deck too.

Hi!

I am getting married April 5, 2014 and have Marisol as my WC as well. It does take a decent amount of time for her to respond to questions. I admit that I am a bit of a control freak, but one thing that has worked for me is that we have scheduled regular phone conferences in addition to the back and forth emails. This allows me to know that I have a guaranteed time where we will talk. I also think she does a much better job of explaining things and answering questions over the telephone. We have had multiple phone calls for over an hour each and she seems very dedicated during these times.

Hope that helps! I feel you though, it is a challenge!

thank you!!

and you are so very welcome. I think it'll be a call when you get down there - either indoors or out - depending on how windy it is. or it may be a call on hair-up or hair-down, veil or no veil. you can modify, and either way it'll be beautiful. have I mentioned how much I love this resort?

Hello!

Thank you everyone for all of the useful information. I have just confirmed our wedding date at EDR for 11/15/2014. I'm very excited and hope planning goes smoothly! I have been to EDR once before with my fiance and know it is beautiful. Due to the size of our wedding and Gazebo 55 being taken, we will be getting married at the Fuentes Gazebo. Anyone have experience with this location?

I hope November weather is ok, seems most people are married at EDR in the Spring. Should we see about having the reception at Tuncanes? I thought a beach front reception would be romantic...but I suppose not in the rain! :)

Thanks for everyone who has contributed to this thread, it is very helpful!!

I was married in November also (though not at EDR, though I have been there!).  We had our ceremony on the beach and it was perfect.  It doesn't hurt to have a good rain back-up though.

The weather was beautiful the week we went in 2013.  The sun does set very early in November and you might want to alter your ceremony time for this.

If you have any questions, PM me.

All the best with planning!

Hey gals!

I've been trying to find this info out but can't so if this has been answered I apologize...

Does anyone know if El Dorado has a maximum number of persons allowed to attend a wedding that is staying off property? I have a few persons who may not be able to afford this property, but we have decided to go ahead with EDR for the wedding location. I know they charge a day pass fee, but Secrets only allows up to like 10% of your total wedding (which in our case is about 6 persons..)

Thanks in advance! I'm so excited :) We are attending the Bride's Rehearsal for March and plan to make a deposit then for April 2015

Weather in November is overall great! Not too hot, not too cold. You'll be fine in Tucanes or on the beach. If it's too windy that day, they may suggest you move the reception to another location if you pick the beach. We were there in Nov 2012 for our wedding, and then this year for our anniversary. We had more rain this year than last, but it never lasted very long.

Fuentes Gazebo is a great location. There's a photo on the official thread, plus links to Miriam's photos of each of the venues - scroll down a bit for the ceremony locations post.

They pushed for the 10-15% rule when I was married there. But ask your WC to be sure - we had 4 come onsite, which was over 10% for our wedding of 35, and it was no problem. There isn't a fee for the day of your wedding, if you host a private dinner event, but if they come on property another day (for welcome or rehearsal dinner, etc.) they will have to pay for the day pass. The rule is they can come on an hour before the ceremony - no idea how strictly they enforce that.

Enjoy the bride's dress rehearsal!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
