Hot damn!!! How did your TA do that?  Maybe I should tell mine to start pumping them for credit. .. our weddings are a week apart, they can't be that different in pricing.

It does not hurt to try because we had our TA contact them regarding where our room were. which I don't know why I even asked about that but it worked because we got free upgrades. So I say go for it!!! :)

congratulations Amanda!!

The luxury suites in buildings 1 - 5 are really nice. They were finishing them when we were there in November. You get the view (they are right on the beach), and the convenience too. They are right by the Health Bar, and close to the JoJos & La Isla. Plus there's a swim up on the bottom floors. I would do those over a an ocean view or ocean front.

your GI travel agent should have some upgrades to give out - you can ask if they have any available for sure! we booked a regular casita, and our TA upgraded us to the swim up casita for our entire stay as a wedding gift. we looooooved our swim up casita!!!

We are booking our room block now and have a few questions. Right now we are going to hold 40 rooms but aren't sure which room types to hold. We have 20 rooms in the standard "Jacuzzi Jr. Suite'. For the remainder are the "Luxury Jacuzzi Jr Suites" the renovated rooms in Buildings 1-5? Are they that much better? We aren't sure if we should do those, or ocean view, or ocean front. I think we are going to do 10 swim ups as well as some of our guests tend to book higher end rooms.

We are going to stay in the Casita side. We have a GI travel agent, do you think we will get upgraded? I know things are based on availability but should we just book the standard Casita and hope for a swim up or does it seem they usually upgrade the bride and groom?

Thanks so much!!

Amanda

Hi Brides!

Does anyone have any experience with bringing your own fabric to drape over the ceremony structure at gazebo 55?  The Coordinator said the fabric needs to be 45ft x 5ft.  I havent been able to find that online but i feel like i could buy it for less than the $200 rental fee.  Is anyone here selling it?

Thank you!

I know a lot of brides bought their own decorations down, but we decided to just order the decorations through Lomas. What I figured was that it wasn't that much of a savings because we would be charged $5 a person for bringing our own stuff. We have 31 guests so that would be $155. If I added up the cost of the decorations I would buy myself, shipping costs, plus the cost to check an extra bag, it wasn't that much of a savings (it wasn't thousands of dollars or anything). I also feel like I am saving money by not getting charged for certain items like the ceremony site, a minister, the chairs, the tables, the white table cloths, the set up and especially alcohol. So I guess I am ok with the mark up for some decorations to not deal with the hassle.  Also, for some of my decorations, like the centerpieces, my coordinator was pretty good with working with me to find something that worked for what I wanted to spend. For example, each centerpiece we have now is a square wooden tray with a lantern, purple flower and sand in it for $50 each.

Just thought I'd share our plan, hope it helps with other brides' decisions!

Anyone who has been to the EDR know what kind of dress code there is for guys at night? My FI is a tshirt and shorts kind of guy, and doesn't have a lot of dressy clothes. Are the restaurants fancy at night? It is a strict dress code?

They are not super strict, but guys do have to wear pants. Jeans are fine. And a nice golf shirt would do the job.

For the most part they ask for guests to basically not wear their beachwear, but you don't have to bring a suit and tie! Most people we saw down there, guys usually casual khakis, or jeans with a collared shirt (some wear dressy shirts, some golf shirts). Gals usually nice summer dresses, or a skirt with a nice shirt.

Hope that helps!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
