El Dorado Royale (EDR) Brides - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

I LOVED all of the food we ordered for our private events!

For our cocktail party we had:

  • Grilled scallops with seared spinach $ 3.00 USD per piece
  • Lobster medallion on brioche toast $ 4.00 USD per piece
  • Mini chicken skewers with marinated soy sauce $ 2.00 USD per piece
  • Spinach and Ricotta parcels $ 2.00 USD per piece
  • Seafood ceviche in mini taco shell $ 3.00 USD per piece

For our rehearsal dinner at Tucanes we had (one of my fav meals of the trip!):

1000

For our reception at Salon Dorado we had:

Starter:

  • Vanilla-rum flambed mexican shrimp, mix lettuce bouquet withmango vinaigrette

Entree options we gave guests:

  • Seared Mahi-Mahi fillet, with saffron risotto, zucchini gratin in tomato sauce
  • Petite filet mignon and Caribbean Lobster, goat cheese potato gratin honey-shallot-pinot noir sauce

Desert:

  • Bittersweet chocolate mousse and passion fruit crème brule, mango coulis

We had a small cutting cake for the tradition and it was actually quite tasty! We were hesitant to get a big cake since my cousin, who got married at EDR, strongly advised against it since she said hers was quite stale and barely anyone ate it. Maybe since  we ordered a "specialty" flavor (carrot cake), they made ours fresh??

Ms Wolfert do you have any pcitures of your set up for your reception. How many people did you have at your wedding. Also an Anniversary should be an anniversary, not just the first one, this is our our 25th. I just don't think it's cool for the TA to tell me one thing then after I pay then she comes back with the " oh by the way, the Anniversary.....

Valeria was my WC as well, but we worked with Christine from DW.com for our travel needs.

I will try to post some pics of our reception set up later this evening.

As for the anniversary package, I know my contract states it's specifically a first anniversary stay, but that is crappy if they told you otherwise.

Well, I think we have our group and final number - 42, including us. I'm thrilled with that!!

However...today's inconsiderate invitee vent:

My poor FI is dealing with his jerk father, who is claiming he had no idea he'd have to make payment on Friday. Never mind that he's avoided my FI's calls, hasn't returned them, and didn't answer my FI's grandparents when they tried to talk to him about it too. We've done all we can. Ugh, I just hate that he's jerking my FI around like this and trying to turn it around like we haven't told him the info. Same guy who asked my FI a few months ago if we wanted to wait 3 years to get married. Yeah, supportive guy. The reality is I'm relieved he isn't going - and my FI probably is too. I just hate that he's being such a prick about it. /vent

How is everyone else??

Our group loved the Mexican apps(we had Mexican donkey cocktail hour)...in fact I never saw them they were eaten so fast! Lol! We also had the BBQ buffet and it was good too. I don't know what La Glorieta is, but the Health bar is a good outdoor location since it is close to the beach and some washrooms and far enough away from any restaurants that it feels private still. The pool and thatch roof make it pretty too.

I need some opinions, ladies!

My grandma's good friend did my dress alterations for me. She's been sewing for years and does a lot of wedding alterations. I picked up my dress from her yesterday and its TOO SHORT! I've been holding back the tears crybaby2.gif. I couldn't bring myself to say anything to her because she's not charging anything for her work and her and my grandma both just thought it looked perfect when I tried it on. I thought maybe I was just over reacting and I knew if I told her I was unhappy my grandma would feel so guilty. When she measured it for me I was barefoot since that is how I will be for our wedding and she pinned it perfectly. I wanted it to still cover my feet but not be long enough to step on. Now you can see the tops of my feet while standing still and my ankles when I walk. I went straight to my MILs house when I left with my dress for her opinion and she agreed that it was too short but didn't think it was short enough for people to really notice it. There is no material left in the hem to let it out and its chiffon so adding material to it wouldn't work either without changing the look of the dress.

My FI said I should go buy another dress and have it redone by another person if I'm that unhappy with it. Luckily, David's Bridal stocks my dress in store and the cost of two dresses would still be cheaper than what some people pay for just one dress. After sleeping on it, I don't know that I want to put my wedding dress on and be unhappy with it in any way. We are 28 days out until the wedding and 25 until we leave so I need to be making my decision soon! Am I over reacting? And am I crazy to go buy another dress??

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
