Cancun hospital/emergency care

Recommended Posts

Has anyone has any experiences with hospital or emergency care in Cancun?

One of my guests is asking since she has had some issues over the past year.

It won't stop her from traveling, but she just wants to be aware of the care in the area just in case.

(Knock-on-wood she does not need it!)

I've read a lot of reviews where people have had to go to the hospitals in Riviera Maya (not sure if they transport them to Cancun or if there is one down south furtherhuh.gif) But they all say that the care is actually better than the US. Yup, you pay A LOT if you don't have insurance, but they almost all said that you don't even wait in the waiting room like you would here in the US. Most people were to the hospital and back in a few short hours.

My FI and our fams were there in November... the riviera maya... we were in a car accident and my bro had to go to the hospital...

They did x-rays... that's about it... but he and my mom said it was basically someones garage... But, this was not the main hospital... which is rumered to be really nice. The only problem is that they will not let you leave until you pay your bill... fully!

There is a private hospital called Hospiten (http://www.playamayanews.com/health/...el_carmen.html) with locations in both Cancun and Playa del Carmen. They have a very good reputation. Many people also go to the local Hyperbaric Chamber (medical care for diving accidents) for minor injuries. My friend went there for a broken wrist and received good, affordable care.

I am agree with Paul. Hospiten is the best one here in the Riviera. In Cancun there is also one and much more!

Some hotels have a concesion with the Hospiten Hospital and their medical services on site are from there.

You should not worry about getting sick during your stay but just make sure to have an insurance, otherwise it could be very expensive!

Good luck!

Yazmin.

What is the name of the one you are referring to in Cancun?
We will be staying at Dreams.
I want to be able to give my friend piece of mind about actual hospital care if something serious were to happen.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
