Playa del Carmen...which one do you guys suggest?

Recommended Posts

so i'm thinking of having the wedding at iberostar. has anyone heard or has anyone had their wedding there? it looks awesome! BUT then i was looking at Occidental and RIU. what do you guys think of those? the only thing with iberostar is that you just have the reception at one of the restaurants and don't have much of a choice on the menu. as opposed to other hotels having the dinner menus for the weddings. i don't know...i need a little feed back. i'm going to make the decision this week...please help!!

thanks

We had originally planned on having ours at the Iberostar Lindo, but when we post-poned the wedding, we changed our minds for these reasons:

1) The beach wedding setup looked cheap (like Wal-mart floral and pedistals).

2) We heard from a few people that the walk from the resort to the beach was about 4 football lengths.

3) The beach wedding area looked crammed in between the sun-bathing lounge chairs and the water boat rentals.

4) In every picture I saw on a photographers' website, there were old men in speedo's in all the ceremony photos or some other obstruction (boats, chairs, etc...).

5) Decided it was way too huge and we wanted something small and intimate.

The reasons why we had originally considered it:

1) Prices were reasonable for the wedding, as well as our own stay.

2) They only do one wedding per day.

3) The resort has an amazing array of amenities.

4) The rooms in the complex varied in prices, making it easier for all price budgets to attend.

I have had a couple people tell me that the Iberostar is their favorite place to stay in Playa but I am not sure as to there weddings.

Occidental, we really thought we were going to get marrie here the resort gets great reviews and the gazebo is very nice the only downer is that it is a bit more expansive when you add everything up to have a wedding there although cheaper to stay there for your guests than other places. They just dont have the good of wedding packages. Also there is no beach but that wasnt a problem for us.

I'm not sure about the RIU's but there are a few girls here that have had RIU weddings at other locations and have good reviews.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
