We had our wedding at the Palace in May 2010 and were able to book our photographers 2 nights at the Beach for $65/per night ($130 total for the 2 of them) through the Barcelo's "Happy Days" promotion. You have to join the Barcelo's free online frequent guest club, but was definitely worthwhile for me. Here is the link to the promotion website: https://www.barcelo.com/BarceloHotels/en-GB/UserRegistration/Ofertas_HD_Hoteles_LatAm_NoReg.htm#Mexico

Since they were staying as guests at the Barcelo we didn't have to pay any extra for a day pass or for them to eat at the reception.

Good luck!

On the unofficial barcelo maya website forum there was a discussion about this and apparently the happy days special is only good for US Citizens for some reason.

Thank you!  I think I'm definitely leaning towards the Barcelo.  We're still pricing things out, but I love the pictures I've been able to find!

I had the Barcelo and Riu both picked out for my final two hotels. The main reason why I went with the Barcelo was that the price for the hotel stay was a bit cheaper for my guests. I had stayed in the Riu in Aruba and it was wonderful, however a friend I know just got married at Barcelo in May and I got to see her pictures and hear her first hand stoies about the wedding. She said the wedding cordinators were awesome and everything went very smooth, plus her pictures were AMAZING.

It just came down to the fact that I felt better knowing someone who got married there and that it had everything I wanted for my wedding (beachside ceremony, the grass and rocks plus white sand for pictures etc).

I would read up on some wedding reviews for sure before you make your decission. Only thing bad I can say so far with the barcelo is that their wedding package prices are a bit high compared to Riu. Also for having 21rooms booked with them im getting NOTHING for free which is silly IMO for brining that much business to them. Oh wells.

Congrats on your wedding though, I hope it all works out for you! :)

There is a "neverending wedding photo thread" that has all pics of various sections/weddings on the resort!

Good luck, and it's a great choice!

Hi Ladies!

So I have Xhail as my wedding coordinator and it took until I gave her my confirmations that I paid for our hotel before I got any emails back. Not only that, but I have to wait usually a week to two weeks for answers to my questions... My latest questions she didnt answer at all, she just avoided the question by pointing me in the direction of the price list... Thanks! lol. If anyone has any answers to these qu's could you let me know?

-          Are the tables rectangular or circular, and the sizes of the tables?

-           How many to a table?

-          As far as time line, what would you suggest (our wedding is at 1)

-          Is the cocktail hour cost additional? And is it per person?

-          What color are the linens? Is there an option to change the linen colors?

How is everyone doing? Only a little over two months left for me, soooooo excited!

Hey girl! I have Claudia as WC...she usually takes about a week to get back to me, but I'm ok with that, since we've still got quite a bit of time and I'm sure we'll figure most stuff out when we get down here. I'll try my best to answer your questions if I can.

Are the tables rectangular or circular, and the sizes of the tables?

It depends on where your reception is. We're having ours in one of the banquet rooms. We can do a long rectangular table for 30 people or less, or round tables that seat 8 each. Here's a couple of pics she sent me:

-           How many to a table?

See above :)

-          As far as time line, what would you suggest (our wedding is at 1)

Here is my schedule (my ceremony is at 4). You can do something like this, or change it up. It's your wedding! Do what makes YOU happy! :)

Wedding ceremony at 4 pm.
Ceremony ends at 4:30 to 4:45
Pictures taken until 5:30 to 6 pm.
Reception starts at 6. Guests drink cocktails.
Dinner served at 6:30
First dance at 7:15 to 7:30
Dancing, etc until 8:30
Cut cake at 8:30
Reception ends at 9 (move on to disco for further dancing)

-          Is the cocktail hour cost additional? And is it per person?

Cocktail hour is an additional cost. I'm not doing one, because we're going to have an open bar at our reception, so I can't help you out with the cost there. I'm sure someone else will jump in.

-          What color are the linens? Is there an option to change the linen colors

I believe white linens are included in the package price that you choose. I'm not sure if they offer other options, but I'm sure any other colors will have an additional cost. We're going to just stick with white. I'm not even doing centerpieces...I'm super laid back (aka LAZY!)

Any other questions?? Hopefully this helped!

hey girls!

Thought id show you the email I got from a friend who stayed at Barcelo in May for her wedding. I asked her about paying for photographers at the hotel:

We only payed for a one night stay, triple occupancy for the two photographers and the videographer. If your just having the photographers then double occupancy for one night. You can book it on expedia, that's what we did.
Your very welcome, glad to help!!!!! :)
~Maria~

So they obviously arnt 100% with making you book for two nights stay.

Also did anyone get an email from one of the WP with an attachment that you had to fill out? Im having problems filling this stuff out when I have no idea what is allowed for most of it.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
