With the reservations I'm getting the same run around, they tell me to talk to Cecilia and Cecilia tells me to contact reservations dept...I'll let you know if I figure that one out :)

Good luck!
the reservation people also gave me the run-around and this is something i wasn't willing to deal with b/c it involves accomodations for guests, so we're going with a TA/orbitz. Cecilia really has nothing to do with reservations so I would stay on top of them and make sure you get EVERYTHING in writing!!

The things I was able to swap were...

1. We are flying our own photographer in so the credit from the photographer will go towards 4 hours of the sound system rental. That left us with another 1 - 2 hours of sound system to pay for.

2. We also did not want the trio to sing or anything as we would rather have some music from our IPOD playing in the background at cocktail hour. For us the trio's we have heard and we weren't impressed with - it got old after a while. So she gave us the additional rental on the sound system so we are getting the sound system at no charge for those two things.

Hope this helps. It saved us over $900

I was told that they will not hold a block of rooms for you unless you pay for all of them.....and that's definitely not going to work! I have a few friends who got married in Mexico and used a travel agent - each said the TA didn't do much. I'm booking through Orbitz this week and telling friends/family to do the same in order to get a good deal.....the sooner they book, the better.

Dreams will give you a discount code of 20% if you book ten or more rooms. You WILL have to pay for those ten in order to get the code. However, your other guests will then get a discount code to use when they make their reservation - but they have to go through the resort for reservations. Even with the 20%, going directly through the resort is still more expensive than booking through Orbitz or Expedia.

So I still haven't heard from Claudia.....we put our deposit down three weeks ago, but the website states that you need the deposit AND the contract in order to hold a date. This is the item I have been waiting for. Everything else can wait until we arrive or shortly before. Is everyone here just going off of the deposit, or are you waiting until you have the contract before solidifying travel plans? Just curious because Orbitz is non-refundable.

Just a suggestion, but you might want to check out this thread regarding orbitz
http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...a-beware-1041/

Just my opinion, but I would never put my wedding group in the hands of orbitz or any other online booking site. Think about it, you're planning the wedding of your dreams, you're planning to spend the week with family and friends and then you arrive at the resort and find out that several couples are being bumped to another resort, because it's overbooked!! I wouldn't want to take a chance like that. Also, keep in mind that you may see good rates right now on orbitz, but they may only have a few rooms available at that price.

TA's can get group rates, you only pay a deposit for the rooms you want held, not the entire cost. Sometimes the resort will offer perks with group bookings. But TA's can also book individual travel for all of your guests and keep track of all of their travel information, so that you as a bride are not getting the calls.

I'm not trying to tell you to use a TA or not, that's completely up to you, you seem to have made your decision. I'm posting this more as a public service announcement for the other brides that read this thread and aren't sure what to do, I want to make sure that they are educated and really know what they're getting into.

jeremy: thanks! can't wait for the review!!

mcbride: you definately need that contract in your hand! light some fire under her a** b/c the contract has you date/time/location and that's the most important thing to have in writing.

andim: a TA can hold a block of rooms and all you have to pay is the deposit. I am working with a TA and gave my guests the option of booking on their own or through the TA. FI and I got a MUCH better deal for our second location for the HM than on Orbitz, Expedia, etc (like 1/2 the cost). and like TA Jill said, it takes the pressure off of you and if anything happens, the TA steps in. They are in the industry so they have all the "ins" and can work some magic!

YES! I can't seem to get a hold of anyone there who can help me. We paid our deposit and now it seems like there's no one in the department. We've actually set a deadline....if I don't hear from Claudia by the end of January, we're pulling out and will probably have the wedding elsewhere. It isn't like Cancun is lacking in beautiful places to have a beach wedding! :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
