Dreams Cancun - Questions for those married here!

Recommended Posts

I aksed Gaby about extending the reception and she told me that I could but it is $15 usd + 15% service +10% tax per person per hour!! That is so crazy! It also can't go past 11pm. I really feel like the reception should be at least 4 hours. By the time everyone eats dinner and gets up and moving on the dance floor, there will only be 1 1/2 hours left, which goes by so quickly. I think I read somewhere that one of the brides just continued on with the reception and another said that they moved the party into the lobby bar since there is music in there.

Does anyone know if they provide you with cake boxes or somethign for the guests to take cake back to their rooms? Also, I would like to bring the top tier of my cake home to freeze but I am not sure if they are going to let me take food out of the country. Has anyone ever done this?

I really considering if I am even going to have a reception because of the length of time that they are giving us. I feel that we are going to feel rushed to get everything done. I have to pay the DJ $950.00 for 3 hours and we will probably only dance for an hour an a half of that time. It just does not seem to practical to me. I am leaning toward moving the entire party to one of the bars/clubs.

I'm catching up though and I just wanted to say I love this thread! It really is so helpful. My FI thinks I'm a little too obsessed but whatever. So thanks to all of you and I will be writing again shortly.
Welcome Michelle! I know it takes forever, but is so worth reading through the whole thread. I actually cut and pasted a 10+ page word document of all the stuff I thought would be helpful in the future while I read. I may bring it with me for backup since it has details of a lot of trades made by other people in the past

I am so excited, my TA just got back from Dreams with her newly married and newly engaged sisters and the one who is not yet married fell in love and is in the process of trying to talk her FH into getting married there. After the stress of her sister's wedding, she doesn't want to do a big at home deal.

They visited a bunch of resorts and she chose Dreams! Yay. I'll send her the info for this thread and we may have a noob soon.

That just reinforces my decision to get married there.

The answer is no. I emailed Claudia about this before and she said if we wanted to do it ourselves we can. Also, the cake that they provide you with just enough for 20 people which would be 1 tier. Aside from that, you would be paying extra for additional tiers, and i heard from another bride that its just not worth it.

I might be going with the small cake and serve my guests desert that comes with the package.

It took a while for my deposit to go through (they said they have to give it to their accounting dept, and it could take a little while) but it all worked out for me (so far!).

Good luck! smile03.gif
Thanks! I hope you're right, I kind of went nuts and emailed 3 times this past week and I still haven't heard back from Cecilia. I guess I just need to be patient, but I still haven't booked yet b/c we need to make sure our wedding date is confirmed.shots.gif

i received the activities schedule from dreams, but like kat's, it only includes the daytime activities. i wrote them again requesting the schedule of the evening theme nights and entertainment (casino night, caribbean night, movies, shows, etc.). hopefully they'll have that for may too. for some reason i can't attach the schedule (my computer is being wonky). i'll try again tomorrow from my work computer. at least we know for sure this schedule is current.

i just got my stuff together to send my birth certificate for apostille. originally my TA said claudia said original birth certificate was fine, but i don't think claudia understood her. i wrote to claudia asking if we needed the apostille, OR just our original birth certificates, and her answer was "yes, please." it wasn't a yes/no question! so we're getting our apostilles to be safe! also, i had no idea we were supposed to send copies of all our paperwork a month in advance until someone posted about it on here ... when was claudia gonna tell me that, when it was too late?

all you ladies doing symbolic ceremonies have it so good ... i envy you!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
