I feel your pain as well. I have wanted to change my resort many a times, but at this point am just sucking it up. From everything I've heard/read on here, any Dreams or Riu that you choose is a good choice. And like Yari said, Las Caletas. I think those brides are like die-hard fans for that place!

thanks everyone for your responses. we were initially against dreams because i really don't want to see any other brides on MY wedding day (i'm so selfish like that!), but we may have to reconsider. you've all given such great feedback...i'll start looking into your suggestions now!

Neen - changing your resorts can also be a bitch! Are the issues that you are having major ones? Are they with the resort itself, or with the guests? So far, it seems to be a money issues (jeez, aren't they all?), which is a resort issue. But I wonder if they can work with you in any way. Knowing that they are losing you and your guests might make them a little more flexible.

Although, we all know that isn't always the case! I am sorry you are having such drama. Picking the resort was the hardest choice we made and I still waiver on if it was the best. I kinda even wish we chose Mexico instead of Jamaica!

I FEEL YOUR PAIN!! My first choice was the Paradisus. Loved the idea that I would be the only bride for that day. Still, I didn't feel at ease until I saw it for myself and talked to the WC in person. So I flew down in January and was amazed at how expensive it was getting! And despite what I read in other posts they are NOT willing to negotiate. Instead, the prices kept getting higher. I agree, the resort is nice but not that nice to make up for the outrageous costs. Especially considering many other resorts I saw during my site visits included items for free. So, I changed to Dreams Tulum. I asked and there will only be a another bride getting married 5 hours before my wedding so I don't think it will be a problem. Sorry, wish I had better news but the Paradisus ( in my opinion) is NOT the paradise it claims to be.

i'm looking into Dreams Tulum and also Dream Puerto Aventuras (since it'll be open for winter 09) now...will see what happens.

Despite the cost, everyone is really excited about having our wedding during high season so it'll be a sunny escape from the cold weather in NY/DC/Colorado.

for those wondering, the Paradisus is beautiful and a great option...just not for us since we have sisters with 3, 4, and 6 kids! i haven't let them know yet that we're dropping our date and forfeiting the $500 deposit...we just made the decision this morning so i'm giving it 24hrs before totally dashing the plans i already had in place.

again, loads of thanks for all the suggestions and feedback! elefant.gif surprisingly, i'm excited to be starting the process again now...i just wish all the resorts replied to me in 1.2 seconds pokestick.gif

I chose the Bahia Principe because although the price for the wedding is stiff, the price for the vacation is very low compared to every where else. i figured I'd rather pay more for the wedding than have our guests bail out over additional costs.

Hey Neen - Sorry to hear about the problems that you are having. We had signed a contract with the PRC and went for our planning visit, after sending STDs and some guests booking the resort, and were really disappointed with several things, the greatest being the service, but one of them being the nickel and diming that you are talking about. By the time all was said and done, we would have paid $10K for our 40 person reception, and we decided that we could spend that much at a resort with better service, so we moved it to the Moon Palace. At first we were concerned that it was a "wedding factory" but then we just decided that if they do 5 weddings a day, they know what they are doing and it is a big enough resort that it wouldn't really matter.

Good luck with whatever choice you make...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
