ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

Recommended Posts

Hi ladies!

Just posted my review: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/products/the-royal-in-playa-del-carmen-all-inclusive-spa-resort/reviews/6171

I focused more on the wedding side of it, but I also have a link to my TripAdvisor review, which focuses more on the resort itself. :)

When you did this upgrade, what room were you already booked for? I just asked my TA and she said it would be an extra $2,550 for the master suite, and an extra $4,500 for the presidential? I would love to upgrade the room and have the free wedding especially since I feel like I would be getting more out of it than paying $600 for a minister, but at those prices I'm thinking maybe not.

 I think I was booked for a JSOV-Ocean view? I forget exactly.

I booked this 5 months out from the wedding? Even so, the highest I was seeing online was $1800usd MORE than what I was originally paying ( like $410 a night x 5= $2050).

Back then I think I was seeing $700 a night for the prez suite. We are switching to another room after the 5 nights :-(

So my parents just called me and said that they don't think my brother is coming to the wedding. My Dad has become physically sick because of all the stress my brother has caused.

He has major addiction issues and NOW they think that it isn't a good idea that he comes (we are 12 days out here.) I have paid for his hotel stay already with my cousins and I don't think I can recoop any of that money without changing the entire reservation and fees associated with changing.

This is just so upsetting to me! We are already having a small wedding and FI's sister wasn't invited and now my brother has been (un)invited.

Normally this wouldn't be bothering me so much but I know my parents aren't going to kick my brother out of the house for long (he lives with them). I am just going to be even more upset if he isn't at the wedding at all and my parents eventually let him move back.  This whole "kicking him out of the house for a week, and then allowing him to move back home" cycle has been going on for years and years.

I am sorry this is so depressing to me. I had to rant to someone. :-(

Aww how awful!! I mean it is your wedding, do you think he will be ok going?? This is such a hard thing to deal with esp since he is your brother and you want him to be there. Can you talk to him and maybe see whats going on? I would hate for you to be out that money!! What does your FI think about it? Yes you are right though it makes it hard if they are always going back and forth. Well I wish you the best, I bet everything will turn out ok.

Speaking of family drama, my FI just informed me that my brother-in-law who is an alcoholic and has had 3 DWI's is going to be taking his ankel monitor off next week before we leave!!! He has been waiting a year and half now for the DA to figure out what they are gonna charge him with so on his own will he bought the ankel monitor put it on and so everything has been great until now!! UGH he acts like a complete idiot when he is drinking and I really wish he wasnt even coming to the wedding! Sooo annoyed mad2.gif

Hi Lucky,

I guess we have to roll with the punches right? That's the advice I would give to any bride. Our brothers sound kind of similar. I know my parents were worried about him and the all inclusive resort. I mean, the Royals have liquor bars right in the room! It's tough for anyone that has any kind of addiction.

I wanted the all inclusive because of the relaxed atmosphere for my guests and didn't really think about my brother.

It's been back and forth whether he will come to the wedding or not, but I would have loved to use that money for his room to help out some of my friends who are staying offsite.

I know the Royal will be amazing and everything will be ok, but I will feel depressed that he will not be there. Those pictures last forever and he will not be a part of them...

I am so sorry to hear your brother cant go, but knowing people that have been through the same thing (and are or even arrnt in recovery) it is definitly the right desision for him not to go where there is temptation everywhere. Maybe you can have your own celebration at home after the wedding and take pictures with him. Just an idea.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
