ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

Hi Brides and Grooms,

I keep reading that everyone is using Marvin for flowers. I went to PDC in January and found Floreria Sac-Rah by Angeles and Silvia really close to The Royal. I don't think there is a link to Marvin, so this may be another florist option for those looking. I have attached a pre-wedding centerpiece the florist put together as a sample, the centerpiece is actually on The Royal's ballroom table with their table clothe. The orange runner (it's actually a chair bow! 89 cents) is mine, I plan on crossing two orange runners. They quoted me $35 per centerpiece versus $90 - $100 at The Royal per centerpiece. They require a 50% deposit and seemed really flexible. That same day I put the down payment and have everything in writing from them. They mentioned that they sometimes do flower arrangements for The Royal. It was worth paying the outside vendor fee for us since we have a large party attending our wedding. However, I wish I wouldn't have told my WC about having this outside vendor and wish I could just have my mother and aunts pick up the centerpieces from the shop or meet the florist outside the resort. Anyway hope this info helps!Pre-wedding Trip 208.JPG

Marvin IS Expensive, but not as expensive as THE Royal...and keep in mind, flowers that are pricy here, are even more so there...I really wanted Peonies in my bouquet, but at $20 stem (and $2-300 for a bouquet), I'm over it...it's in my hands for an hour or so, and THAT'S IT!

The DJ is expensive too, waaay more than here...but maybe that's because we have so many friends that spin in clubs so I'm out of touch?

The Bottom line: The location is AMAZING, the drinks will be flowing (to take the edge off), the beach is GORGEOUS, and (most of) your friends and family will BE THERE....everything else is just fluff. :-)

About the flowers, I got my bouquet and sweetheart table centerpiece from the Royal and they were BEAUTIFUL! The bridesmaids bouquets and 5 guest table centerpieces I got from Marvin. I paid $55 for each bridesmaid bouquet and they were pretty. I paid $55 each centerpiece and they were nice but they were ORANGE!! They were suppose to be HOT PINK! My poor husband who waited in the lobby for hours (misunderstanding about arrival time of flowers) had no choice but to accept them since our wedding was 2 hours away.

Even though the Royal price is higher I would go with them. If there is a mistake the coordinator takes care of it. With Marvin you are stuck with what he brings and you have to have someone wait for him in the lobby and then display the flowers for you. From my experience, not worth it.

I am also going to look into the woman that may be doing lounge furniture for us because I believe she does centerpieces as well..plus then since I  am already paying an outside vendor fee she can deal with the set up an take down and no one is forced to sit and wait for the flowers. I would love to see your review so I can avoid the issues you had(sorry for those) as I feel the Royal is kind of getting to strict with all of their restrictions. Also I will look into the royal florist as well..some of their centerpieces weren't so horrible and we are thinking all roses any ways to keep down costs and make it romantic...orchids are out...too expensive!

rsososept - thanks for the info. Do you have their contact info? I was just talking to Marvin today, but would like to compare other prices.  Also, I'm from Houston too! :)

Also, speaking of flowers, does anyone know where you could buy loose stems of different flowers? My aunt is a florist and is willing to put together bouquets/centerpieces for me, but not sure where to get the flowers. I read on the forum that there is a flower shop on 5th avenue or something? Does anyone know about this/contact info??

Thanks!

Yay! Houston! July, huh? Heat chasing heat! Lol, the month happened to work for us since it is a holiday weekend and teachers are on vacation too.

Sure do. I copied the info as written on their business card.

This flower shop sales single stems too, but I think you will have to give them a heads up on what exactly you will need about one week prior to the date. The reason I say this is because I asked them how far in advance I would have to tell them if I need more flowers and that is how they responded.

Good Luck!

I am going to add centerpieces for the One Hour Welcome Cocktail that comes with our package. I plan on using the same centerpieces for the Engagement Party, Bridal Shower, etc. They are very simple, yet want a nice touch. This is what I have in mind as of now: a clear vase, aqua vase gems, water, and orange silk roses in the water. I have discovered that you can buy the vases at the dollar store instead of paying $8 - $20 per vase at some stores and even on-line.

rsososept - Where did you order your chair bows from?

Also, thank you for the Florist info! $35 is the best I have seen on BDW yet.

Marvin was quoting me $65 for this I can't wait to see what they will quote me.

Hey ladies!

I am thinking about using an outside vendor for bouquets and centerpieces.  I have heard a lot of good things about Marvin on this thread but the website that people have given for his company is not the right one.  Do you know how I can find the correct website?  I'm interested to see if the prices from Floreria Sac-Nah are better than Marvin's!  Thanks for all your help!

I can't believe I only have 12 weeks left! WOW! I went back to Chicago this past weekend for my shower/bachelorette party with everyone there, and it was so much fun!

I'm starting to think about centerpieces now, and I think I'm going to try my hand at some DIY stuff. I saw this candle arrangement one that I think would be pretty cool at night outside:

Hi Julietisurs,

I bought the chair bows from Arne's Warehouse in Houston. I am not sure if they take online orders, but it is worth asking if it is worth it. They have a website www.arneswarehouse.com

You can find the bows in assorted colors on the website under the "WEDDINGS" link, then go to TULLE, ASTD KIND."  Just keep in mind the color you see online will not be that bright, since tulle loses its color when placed against white (see my pics). If Arne's doesn't work for you, check out Ebay, the prices are reasonable.

Oh, and I re-did the math, I actually paid 95 cents/bow, not 89 cents/bow sorry :-)   Either way, it's cheaper to buy them and bring them with you to the resort. The Royal charges $4/chair ribbon.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
