ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

Recommended Posts

I have to look into this whole $300 thing since my four month mark will be Jan 1.

I changed my ceremony time to 5:30 from 6:00 last week in order to have a full hour for cocktail/appet instead of 1/2 hour.  They were going to charge me for the whole hour regardless, typical Royal haha, and I wanted a 4 hour reception.  Anyways, they made me sign a new contract to change the time, I fought them and they said it was neccessary.  I bet the new contract has the new payment plan and my orginal one didn't.  Hmmmmmm....

Wow! That is pretty sneaky of them to throw that $300 in. It's not like they're losing any money here. They already upped the outside vendor fee. I must have signed my contract before they put that into place during the summer.

That's just ridiculous.

Is anyone else taking pics before the ceremony? My ceremony starts at 6pm and I thought it would be a good idea to take advantage of some sunlight before we do our spiritual ceremony.

If anyone needs a laugh for the day I have a short story: One of my husband's friends is officiating our ceremony. Now remember the scene from Couples Retreat where Salvadori the Yoga instructors comes out of the water and says he plans to put something more comfortable and it's another speedo. We meet up with him and another guy friend for drinks. Apparently this part in the movie is their inspiration. They begin telling me how they plan to start the ceremony. Scott our officiant will swim and rise up from the water flexing his pecs, he will then change into another speedo that says encourage me on the front and Boom! on the back. And apparently all of them will change into speedoes that say the same thing and they will all talk like him! Imagine the horrified look on my face as I hear this!!

As much as they are joking - I wouldn't put it past them. So if any of you ladies see this the week of June 27, 2011 - yes it is my wedding. Feel free to take pics!! :-)

The resort was actually not very big, not too small. I was able to walk from my room (right by the gazebo on far side of resort) to the lobby (central location) in 5 min and then lobby to wedding center in another 5 (opposite my room). The wedding center is directly across the street from the main entrance to the Gran Porto

So I am having my wedding reception on the beach behind the gazebo and decided to try to change it to the gazebo terrace since our wedding group is smaller than originally planned... however they told me that another wedding ceremony is going on during my reception time so I couldn't switch... now if my reception is on the beach in front of the gazebo, is my party going to interfere with their ceremony or vice versa?? How far away is the reception setup on the beach from the gazebo? In pics it looks like it is right behind it.. hmmm..

Also, I can't remember if I read somewhere about good room suggestions on this forum or somewhere else... but for those brides who got married here, do you have any suggestions about what room numbers are best or what area of the resort is the most convenient to stay in? I am in an Oceanview room so I know there are a ton to choose from? Is it loud by the pool all day/night?

Okay, so at least I know I am not blind. I kept searching and searching my contract and other paperwork for this "$300" thing... jeesh!

The resort is definitly not big, I'm guessing but I would think The Royal and Gran Porto would be considered small compared to other resorts.  When we went in April we noticed wedding groups meeting up and hanging out by the pool or on the beach.

It is right behind it. I would talk to them about this for sure.  I'm sure the people having their ceremony wouldn't appreciate it etiher.

When we initially contacted The Royal that was one of our main concerns knowing that they did multiple weddings a day and they ensured me a sitiuation like the one you mentioned wouldn't happen.

Now maybe the ceremony that is going one is only the couple and no guests etc so it won't interfere with your reception.  We say a couple "couples" getting married by themselves or renewing vows when we were there.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
