ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

Recommended Posts

Oh right if any of you have questions on what downtown Playa has for shopping and bars please ask. We spent 2 days shopping both for wedding items and for personal stuff. We also went to some bars that were a lot of fun. They literally have almost everything down there for cheaper. I wish I wouldn't have bought so much to bring down...but you live and learn.

Thanks for the offer-I have a couple of questions.

1.) How much did you see the maracas for?
2.) Did you go to Walmart or some other large store? I want to carry as least down as possible and I'm thinking that I may buy the stuff for centerpieces and buy glass vases/votives there.
3.) Lastly, what kind of things did you see reasonably priced that you wish you would've waited for?

Thanks for sticking around to answer our questions!!!!!!

No problem! You ladies have been such a help, I would love to help you out with things I wasn't sure on.

When you first walk off of the resort and go on 5th avenue you will see a ton of vendors. They all yell at you to come into their store. We were stupid and went in. I went to a couple of different guys and ended up buying mine for $3 each. They were gorgeous though. Well, the next time I went shopping I went down the street a lot further and found them for $1 each. So the key is to do a little walking and go a bit further. Seemed like the further down 5th we went the better the deals. We found them at the General Store for $1. No negotiating but you wouldn't have to because they do have the best prices.

I actually didn't see a walmart, but I did see the MAC store. I still wouldn't recommend going in it. It was in a store with a bunch of high end items like Chanel, etc. Seemed expensive. I just bought all of my MAC makeup from home. Ok, not what you asked. So no on Walmart, but that general store and plent of other stores sold vases. Most were extremely colorful though and very pretty. I don't think that is what you are looking for though. I would pack something like your centerpieces. I actually shipped all of mine to Zulma and it only cost me $40.

I was happy I waited on the maracas. I also bought a box of cigars which were really pricey, but they don't really come down that much on cigars. I wish I would have waited on the centerpieces. Although I was really happy with what I chose, I think it would have brought more color to the tables if I bought something in Mexico. They have sooooooooooo much! I also would have waited to buy the girls necklaces. They have such great jewelry there. I probably would have also waited for buying their special gifts and all the oot bags. I ended up buying these amazing bags for $8 each. They said Playa Del Carmen on them and they were canvas and really cute. If you haven't bought bridesmaids bags yet, those are perfect. They don't really have wedding related items there though like cake toppers, etc. So get that!

Hope that helps, if not then ask away!

They have weird names but everything is very very good. I mean if us nebraska folk love it it must be good
LOL LOVE it!! :) That's exactly what I needed, as most of my guests are from small town Nebraska. Thanks for that! And congratulations, can't wait to see pictures!

Also thanks for the recommendation on not doing the cocktail hour. As of now I'm booked to have one but thinking I might reconsider. :)

I was actually really surprised by this also, especially since they have all the hard liquor sitting out on the bar where they serve champagne. If it isn't included in your package don't pay for it! totally not worth it.

Thanks. That helps a TON! Were the maracas 1.00 each(for one) or 1.00 for 2(one pair)? Thanks for the tip of walking further down. As far as the centerpieces, are you saying you're glad you mailed them or do you wish you had bought them in Mexico? I'm not buying any special makeup. I'm going to bring my Mac from home as well. At least I know how great it looks with my complexion. Thanks for sharing the tips for the BMs gifts.

Hey girls! Just wanted to say we're back from our Royal Cancun wedding/honeymoon and had an amazing time. The week went by waaay too fast and I wish we could have stayed a few more days. All you girls in PDC should have no problems if you get the same treatment I did. :)

I'll be posting my review soon.

Thread will say:

"I've been searching for maracas for awhile for wedding favors/place settings for the reception (no assigned seating; just a maraca in front of each seat). I, finally, found this store, Amols.com, located in San Antonio. They had EXACTLY what I was looking for in price (2.95/pair or 1.95/pair if you buy more than 12pairs), quality (from the look of the pic) and size 8" Traditional Large Maracas 8" Cinco de Mayo Favors & Prizes | Amols' Fiesta Party Supplies

I was about to place my order for 13 pairs and just get whatever colors they ended up sending to me, when I decided to email customer service to ask if I could get specific colors for my order or if they had any additional colors in the turquoise & yellow family. I wasn't expecting much bc, well, customer service is lacking pretty much everywhere in general these days.

Boy, was I wrong! Within a day, I received a response that I could definitely choose my specific colors for my 13 pair order. Yay! They had yellow but were out of the turquoise. He said they would be getting a shipment in that afternoon so they would let me know what they got.
A few hours later, they replied saying they had received a teal color but no turquoise. They said it was closer to green then turquoise so they didn't know if it would work for me and to let them know what I thought. I took a chance that they wouldn't think I was nuts and emailed a pic of my BM's dress and asked if they had a color close to the picture.
They didn't mind at all, I guess, bc a couple hours later they sent a color recommendation and a promise that he would personally pull the colors I needed and make sure they were shipped as such!

I know its not much, but it meant the world to me that they cared enough about my measly, little, 13 pair order to take the time and make sure I was super happy w/everything.

Anywho, I just wanted to share my little story & a website recommendation w/my fellow Desties! I'll make sure to come back and post pics of the maracas after I get them."

Aww that's so awesome, and yes, it makes a difference when they go out of their way!

LisaD - you are a smart woman for ordering invites. Although I am happy the way they turned out I think for sanity reasons its better to let the professionals do it lol
Me and my dreams....last night I dreamt that I met the lady who is doing the invites and she put the wrong background on it (I love starfish and I was like "noooo, it's supposed to have starfish!") I'm such a weirdo

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
