just some advice, here is what my TA told me regarding online travel agencies wih our guests looking to book with online travel agencies.

From her:
You really want to warn them that if they book with the onlines ( Travelocity ect) that there is a strong likelihood that they will be bumped and that they can move them to somewhere else entirely and that it can be anywhere in the Riviera maya /Cancun area! The guests will then not be with everyone and will have to pay the cost to get to the wedding. The online companies suck people in by offering lower rates as they do not have to honor every room that is booked at the resort where the client thinks they are booking at! It is stated in the onlines terms & conditions.

Here's the deal.....apparently, the girls in Michigan only have a limited number of rooms they can book at their special rates, so when that books out they refer people to the sister resort 10 minutes away and book them there instead of referring them to the Gran's Hotel Reservations line or hotel website! Argh!

It must be a commission based booking for them. I mean WHY wouldn't they understand that all my guests WANT to stay in the same hotel as us? Grr......

So be forewarned. Just because they say the rooms are all booked, doesn't mean the ENTIRE hotel is booked. Check online first or call the 1-800 number for the Hotel itself and book under your wedding name. Basically, the WC office almost like a travel agency. They only get a certain number of deals and they want the credit for all the rooms they can book. No wonder they are sooooo adamant that ALL your guests book through them.
You definitely do not have to book through the WC's in Michigan. TA's have many different suppliers that they work with and even if one is sold out, there may be another one that is not, so unless the resort was completely booked, a TA would more than likely be able to find you a room through one of their suppliers.

Exactly what I was going to say! Be very careful about booking online, the royal overbooks quite often, and you may be bumped!

Hopefully we do not get bumped into another hotel. Most of our guests used third party websites as well. When I spoke to the gals in Michigan they didn't warn against it but I'm sure they were probably supposed to and they forgot.

I am not sure I want to pay 180 dollars for a 2 layer cake, and I also don't want enough cake to feed 150 people when we're only having 40 of us!
i was underwhelmed with the cake selections too! one of the questions i have in to my WC is about adding some orange lilies to the cake instead of the frosting flowers. i think that would be way better than any of the options provided! it's been two weeks since i sent in the questions, so who knows WHEN i'll hear back, but i'll try to remember to post the answer here if(when) i get any response.

Hey! I already bought mine... went to Mockingbird Bridal, Terry Costa (if you are bottom heavy I suggest not looking there. Their sample sizes only go up to a size 8 which street size is like a 6) and Lewisville Bridal.

Mockingbird was OK. I felt rushed even with an appointment (2 hours were alloted). Terry Costa haha I have hips so I couldn't fit into any of their dresses. So I ended up at Lewisville Bridal. LOVE THEM! Talk about southern hospitality. I'm telling you they have 500+ dresses in all sizes from 0-20. Street size I'm a 10 so that was great for me.

Undergarments, unless you are bashful, don't wear a thong as they are in the room with you helping you with your dress. And if they can't lace up your dress all the way, when you go out in the open to show your family/friends, everyone else gets to see you butt too LOL. I just wore those cheeky panties... white of course. The bridal stores have sample strapless corset bras for you.

I have lost 12 pounds already. I was told a seamstress can take in a dress 2 sizes usually no problem.

My dress took 3 months to come but it all depends on the designer and I got in RIGHT before the big bridal season rush.

I spoke with TA's who said similar things but they, also, could not guarantee that we wouldn't be bumped if we booked through them. Only some vendors that TA's use have a 'no bump' contract, not all, so we decided that it wasn't worth spending that much extra money.

I had also emailed my WC and asked what she thought the likelihood was of the resort selling out during our week, which she said was on the low side...

haha, I would get on it girl! If your dress needs to be ordered it can take a minimum of 4 months....

I wore a bra and regular underwear...

At the bridal shop where I got mine, they don't start alterations until a month before the wedding because they know that many girls lose weight. Maybe yours will be the same!!

Oh my gosh, thank you sooo much! This is GREAT advice. Lewisville is only about 10 minutes away so that is perfect...and if I had gone into those other two places, I would have felt awful not fitting into the dresses lol (we're the same size) cuz yes, I have those Latin hips lol. Thanks so much!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
