Pros: setting, wedding coordinator, perfect for a private wedding
Cons: road to the hotel needs improvement

We just came back from our site visit to Le Reve.  Le Reve was amazing!  The location is absolutely gorgeous! We are very happy to have found this place to hold our wedding July 2011.

The road to the hotel was a bit rough, however as soon as we got to the hotel our entire experience was wonderful.  The view from the reception is truly breathtaking and Arlenis the on-site wedding coordinator was so helpful, she gave us a tour of the hotel right after we did our check in.

The rooms were really nice and most of them have ocean view.  Our favorite was definitely the beach bungalow and will be staying there on our wedding weekend.

The beach area was perfect for the ceremony but we haven't decided yet where we want the reception.

We had dinner at the hotel the first night there and the food was delicious.  We had our menu tasting the following night and we are set on our dinner menu.  Everything felt easy and hassle free.  The staff made us feel at home and were very attentive of what we needed.  We can't wait to have our wedding at Le Reve.

Our countdown has started!

I recently had my wedding at the Le Reve hotel, and I can honestly say, is was the best day of my life. !!!

The hotel is modern and intimate, and the staff are very friendly. The beach and surrounding areas are extremly beautiful.

Special mention to our wedding co-ordinator, Alenis Ruiz, who organised our wedding from start to finish. Arlenis you were absolutely fantastic, you worked so hard to make our dreams come true. Thank you so much for your time and energy, we will never forget you.

If you want a superbly organised, dream wedding, then I highly recommend this hotel.

Pros: Setting, Wedding and Support Staff, Food, Presentation of Food. Wedding Location,
Cons: More hot water

I feel like Elizabeth Barrett Browning by saying how can I count the ways to explain what a magical and intimate experience we were able to have at the Wedding of our Son and our daughter in law. They, our son and daughter in law, had planned the event in coordination with Arlenis. What they decided turned out to be fabulous for us. Everything was elegant but understated a little, which is our style. The behind the scenes work of the staff to create the setting for the rehearsal dinner, wedding, and the reception in the dinner area was beyond my greatest expectation. The manner in which the support staff delivered their service made me feel as if I was among royalty.  For our extended family, friends and the family and friends of the bride the whole experience was dream come true. I could gush more, but I think you get the picture that we had the time of life and Le Reve lived up it is name "The Dream". Thanks!

Pros: Everything! Arlenis my angel Wedding Coordinator, Ana her assistant! They made me feel like I was the only bride they were working with! I love them!
Cons: NONE!!

Pre-wedding planning A+

I had such an amazing experience with Le Reve that I don't want to forget anything. Like most of you on this site, I didn't know where to begin. I had an idea of what I wanted but I just didn't know how to get it since I was planning from so far away and relied on previous brides review to guide me.

I had 32 people in my wedding party and I wanted it to be as intimate as possible and a big resort was not my thing and I discover Le Reve! I had to fight so hard to have my wedding at this resort because of the size of my wedding party but it was SO worth it!! They did everything to make it happen for me. A lot of you thinking of booking at  Le Reve should look no further! If you are looking for a small boutique customizable wedding this is the place to go. I planned my wedding blind, I had never been to Mexico before so you can imagine how stressful it can be.

Arlenis and Ana were there for me every step of the way. I never had to wait to hear from them, they were so responsive to my every needs. I do not consider myself a control freak so it was nice to have someone that had answer available before you even asked questions :-) Arlenis with her beautiful smile always made it seemed so simple but I know it is hard work to deal with multiple brides at the same time. She remember every detail by the time my wedding party arrived, she knew everyone's name.

Hotel Le Reve Wedding Coordinators: Arlenis Pricelesswoot.gif A+++++ Ana simply adorable A+++++

Legal Wedding A++

We were reluctant to do a legal wedding because it seemed like it'd be so much more work but I am SO GLAD I did because Arlenis and Ana pre-arrange EVERYTHING for us all we had to do is show up sign documents, donate blood and meet with an amazing judge who was so funny and made it so relaxing. I am embarrassed to say we were 1+ hour late for our appointment but not once did she make us feel bad b/c she knew that were already feeling guilty. If you are stressed about doing it this way don't be b/c she is the best and will work everything out for you promise!!!

Rehearsal Dinner at Le Reve A+++

We original planned to do it at a restaurant in Tulum BUT I am so glad we had it at Le Reve!!!! We did taquitos on the beach and it was AMAZING! They offered several kinds of meats, an assortments of sauces, beans, beers or margaritas and we had a bonfire, which has to be approved by the city but Arlenis handled it for us and all I had to do is show up and eat, dance around the fire and drink! It was absolutely amazing and EXCEEDED my expectations. The tables were beautifully set up and the tiki  torches were a perfect addition. I was worried that it'd be unexciting to have my wedding and rehearsal at Le Reve but trust me it is such a beautiful property that no one ever wants to leave.

WEDDING DAY! A+++++++

My wedding day started with a massage at the hotel, Arlenis and her team were busy setting up and not once did I see her loose her cool. She ALWAYS has a smile on her face and it is so reassuring she never said no to anything but always offered a suggestions for things should couldn't accommodate and it always worked out better than expected. My wedding was on 4/28 so I wanted to write this while it was  still fresh in my mind and I know I am forgetting a few things but please feel free to inbox me if you have questions. we had our ceremony on the beach, I got ready in the master suites and I'd recommend any bride getting married at Le Reve to get ready in that room it is bigger and plus you can do sneak peeks at people from the balcony as you are getting ready.

The food was awesome! the servers were amazing and were always available to assist. Arlenis was on top of the wedding schedule and kept us in track! We dance to Doremixx and I think my DJ's name was Leo. I  don't remember much after this because I was busy dancing and jumping up it was a BLAST!!!

I am so grateful to have chosen to have my wedding at Le Reve and to have had Arlenis and Ana by my side. It wouldn't have been this perfect without them. The Manager of the hotel was great as well I briefly got a chance to talk to him.

Le Reve looks exactly like what you see on their web site if not even more cuter.

The one tip I'll give: several of our guests actually preferred the Garden suites over the Horizons because they had a little more privacy but you didn't have the view of the ocean though but it is just steps away.

We spend so many days and night hanging at the pool it was truly magical.

I will post pictures as soon as I get them from my photographer the amazing Jeremy by Jeremy Wolfe Photography!!!

Pros: Arlenis (wedding coordinator), Food, Service, Atmosphere, Music
Cons: None

I had my wedding at Le Reve in November. We scouted out other hotels in Mexico and the Caribbean. We looked at a wide range of hotels. The moment we met Arlenis, the wedding coordinator that works for the hotel, we knew we would be in good hands. They do a lot of weddings here and know what they are doing. If I had gone with another hotel, I would have had to hire a wedding coordinator. A few of the the others had onsite coordinators, but they did not hold a candle to Arlenis. I knew I could trust her and that she would make my wedding less stressful for me. Many of our guests made comments to us at how great of a job Arlenis did on our wedding weekend.

We booked out Le Reve for 3 nights, so we had the whole hotel for our guests. This also allowed us to have children attend, as this is an adults only hotel. We held a cocktail hour on Thursday night, a rehearsal dinner on Friday night, and the wedding on Saturday. We also had a ladies only lingerie shower and a children's birthday party. Arlenis helped arrange everything and every event was so memorable. I really can't think of anything that went wrong. Arlenis and the hotel exceeded our expectations. I would recommend this hotel to any bride that wants a boutique hotel with excellent food and service. I feel like we have a family down in Playa del Carmen and we can't wait to go see them.

Cons: none!

We got married at Le Reve on April 9, 2011 and it was perfect!  If you are looking for a small, intimate boutique hotel along the Riviera Maya, seriously, look no further.  We loved everything about Le Reve from the minute we arrived for our site visit in September 2010.  So the road there is a bit bumpy... once you arrive to the open aired lobby and see the incredible view of the sea (with a refreshing welcome drink in hand) you are in paradise!

1) The staff and service is outstanding.  Really, the best we have experienced anywhere.  Our guests all said the same.  The wedding coordinators, Arlenis and Mariana were on top of every detail in the months/weeks/days/hours/minutes leading up to our wedding.

2) The food is incredible, way better than most typical resorts.  Even the breakfast that is included in the room rate is amazing.  One slight disappointment was that the presentation of our meals on the wedding day was not as impressive as when we did our tasting, but the food still tasted great.  Le Reve made our cake too and it was beautiful and delicious.

3) The location is perfect.  It is only 45 minutes to the airport, and about 10-15 minutes to Playa del Carmen -- great if you have a few guests that want cheaper accomodations in town, or if you want to plan a night on the town (which we did).  There are also several hotels within walking distance (on the beach) if you need overflow.   While Le Reve's beach is beautiful, one downside is that there is a lot of coral so it's a little rough on the feet for swimming, but they provide water shoes for all guests.

Overall, we had a fantastic experience with Le Reve and are already looking forward to going back for our anniversary!!!

And a quick note about our vendors -- I would recommend them all.  del Sol Photography goes without saying on this forum here, and they recommended Playa Weddings for video (haven't seen it yet though).  Lorena Hijuelos of makeupart.com.mx did an amazing job on my makeup, and her assistant Margarita was great with hair.  Our florist, Laura, was recommended by Le Reve and for the most part delivered what we wanted based on pictures.  And our DJ, Temo, from Doremixx kept people dancing all night.

We just returned from Le Rêve Hotel & Spa….. where we hosted the wedding of our daughter. This is a great place to get married. The accommodation, the food, the service (sooo personalized) and the beach were perfect. I have been to some other hotels, but none can compare to this one.
This is without a doubt one of the most accommodating places that we have visited. This is a small hotel. There are only 25 rooms. An intimate setting for a private and perfect wedding!
The staff at the hotel was great. These are friendliest people in the world. Big thank you to Jackie, Antonio, Freddie, and so many others who helped to make our vacation memorable. Arlenis, the wedding coordinator, is incredible! Full of energy, ideas, and so helpful! She made the wedding perfect!
Rooms: The rooms are spacious , well done and so romantic....A Dream...! Ours contained a king size bed, closet, and a couple of chairs. There is plenty of room to store your belongings. The room also contained a mini fridge (extra charge if you use any on the contents) and there is bottled water in the room. The rooms are clean and well kept. Daily maid service is included. There is a full bathroom complete with shower. Each room is complete with beach towels.
Restaurant Naay: There is one restaurant, but the food was incredibly delicious. Great atmosphere. Peaceful, nice lounge music.
Beach bar: Perfect Caribbean setting. A large choice of drinks and cocktails.
Beach: Great beach and quite good for swimming (a bit rocky though). There is also an infinity pool for those who don't like the ocean. Beach chairs and lounges were plentiful. Remember to bring bug repellant though.
Take a look at the hotel website. www.hotellereve.com. There is nothing misleading. What you will see on their web page is what you will get.
They are so many things to see and do near Playa del Carmen as well.....from Mayan ruins to snorkeling at the barrier reef, dive trips, etc. etc... Something for anyone. We didn't go on the tours but other guests that we spoke to said they were worth every penny.
I just have to say that the wedding was just perfect…….I am certain that our daughter & son- in- law will remember this beautiful dream as a dream come true forever and ever...

Pros: excelent service, food, location.
Cons: A little expensive

We got married past August 28th at Le Reve Spa & Resort, it was a dream! Everything was perfect!

My husband and I are from quite different countries, Spain and Mexico respectively, thus we had different guests (especially in terms of culture and traditions). However, the Mexicans and Spaniards were delighted and everything went very well, from the rooms to the service, food, music and so on. Definitely the service was the best of all, the manager, the receptionist, all the waiters and waitresses and the best of all wedding planners, Arlenis. If we had to advise somebody on where to celebrate a private, wonderful, and peaceful wedding, we would strongly recommend Le Reve.

For the main event we also worked with other wonderful bunch of professionals that allowed us to enjoy the best day in our lives, which we also strongly recommend: Lili Paniagua and Paula Mijares from Banquetes Lili, Angie and the rest of the team from Taller Gourmet (probably the best catering in Cancun), Vanessa Alvarez (makeup), Alejandro from AV Solutions, Varsovia (florist), Kenno Santos for the funniest Batucada in the Riviera Maya. All these companies have great teams, acted in a very professional manner and with good prices

Hotel Le Reve - INCREDIBLE!!!! This hotel has so much going for it! The food here was by far the best we had in Mexico, and very authentic. Arlenis - the wedding coordinator - is amazing! She is full of energy and ideas - and willing to do basically anything you want. There are a few options for the wedding events - on the beach, pool side, or in their open air restaurant. The lighting at night is incredible. All of the rooms are very spacious, but they have a very minimalist concept - no TVs, clocks, etc. That being said, you hope your guests are there to enjoy the pool, beach, each other, etc. And, there are portable DVD players for use if someone really needs to watch a movie! :) Also, the bride and groom get a room upgrade. The master suites had the most incredible view and were huge! The beach bungalows were great, and about 30 feet from the water! The ultimate reason we did not choose Le Reve (and we debated back and forth between here and Ceiba) is there are not enough rooms (only 25) for all of our guests to stay at the hotel (although there are other options just a 5 min walk down the beach), and not enough rooms at the basic rate. If you have a smaller group, this place is a great option. You will feel like you rented a private villa! I have nothing but good things to say about this place. (And we plan on returning here for a vacation!)

We chose Le Reve Hotel for our wedding because it had the most beautiful beach we´ve ever seen, in a privileged location and a fantastic boutique hotel, that gave us the privacy we where looking for. We had a perfect wedding, on the sand by the sea, an astonish scenery.

Our families stayed at the hotel and enjoyed their facilities and views the days before the wedding. We had a great experience and we really recommend this boutique hotel as the location for your dreamed wedding.

Review of Le Reve Hotel & Spa.

Our wedding in September 2011, at Le Reve Hotel, was truly magical.  And our time at Le Reve was thoroughly enjoyed by our guests and us.  The whole experience exceeded our hopes and expectations by leaps and bounds.  During the entire time we were planning the wedding and researching details, we had no idea that the wedding and our time at Le Reve could turn out as magically as it did.  There was a lot of luck/fate/destiny involved (glorious weather, three incredible rainbows, and a stunning full moon during our wedding); but our vendors (Hotel Le Reve, Del Sol Photography, Fernando, and Laura/Premium Flores) really really did a spectacular job too.

We had about thirty close friends and relatives join us in Playa del Carmen for a few days of sunshine and Caribbean breezes.  I’d been following weather forecasts for weeks and was troubled by what I saw; rain was predicted for every single day we were to be in Mexico.  Plus, September is hurricane season.  But thankfully, the weather was lovely.  Here is our review of the vendors that helped us make the wedding so perfect.

Eugene+Jihye_W_0547.jpg

Preface

We picked Le Reve based solely on research conducted on BDW (including correspondence with some really kind and helpful ladies on this forum.  Thank you guys!) and a little more research on Tripadvisor.  At the time that we were conducting our destination wedding research, we couldn’t get away to do any actual site visits.  We knew we wanted an intimate and romantic location for the wedding – not one of those mega-hotels where rowdy hordes of drunken revelers might be disruptive.  We wanted a place that was intimate enough to feel almost like our own villa – and Le Reve seemed like it could fit the bill.  The feedback we got from people on BDW was overwhelmingly positive.  They said the staff at Le Reve was amazing, and that Arlenis (the hotel’s wedding coordinator) was so unbelievably wonderful.  We really liked what we were hearing – that the hotel staff was very flexible and considerate, in contrast to the rigid policies you often see at mega hotels… We corresponded with Arlenis via email, spoke with her on the phone, and went ahead and signed a contract with Le Reve, without having visited.  Believe me – it felt like a slight leap of faith to sign the agreement without having set foot at the wedding site.  We just trusted that we’d done as much research as we could have done under the circumstances.

A couple months after signing the agreement, we visited Le Reve; and we were very pleased with our choice.  Arlenis was as cheerful, helpful, sweet and overall amazing, as advertised.  The style of the place was as we saw in the photos (we were particularly taken with the photos of Le Reve that we’d seen on Del Sol’s website), and we loved it.  The birds chirped in the palapa roof in the morning; the food was delicious; the staff at the hotel was warm and friendly.  And we knew we’d made the right decision.

Big big bonus: Special Deal with Del Sol & Le Reve!

One thing we wanted to be certain of was that we’d picked the best photographer possible.  We’d gone to a wedding of close relatives the prior year, which was really well done (i.e., a lot of money went into it) and lovely – but, and this is a big but, they were very unhappy with the wedding photographer’s work.  That was super disappointing.  So, we wanted to be sure to go with someone who had the right kind of vision and style for us. We read the reviews on BDW- of photographers in the PDC area.  We visited the various photographers’ websites and viewed their work.  And we saw a lot of photography that was great.  Really really great.  Just incredible images that you’d expect to have come out of some glossy magazine. And throughout this research, the work of Del Sol Photography really blew us away.  I mean, it’s just stunning stunning work – and we both loved loved loved the way the slideshows tell the story of the special day.  We loved the photojournalistic way that Matt, Sol, Juan and co. captured perfect moments and fleeting glimpses of passion and joy and emotion, as well as unbelievable detail and scenery.  The one thing we were sure of is that we could not go wrong with Del Sol.  We felt that if we signed up with them, photos (and how they would turn out, and whether we would have precious images to go with our memories) would not be something we’d have to worry about.  We did a good amount of research and comparison regarding prices as well.  And from our perspective, choosing Del Sol seemed like a good investment and a sound decision.  Choosing who at Del Sol would shoot the wedding turned out to be a tough tough choice.  We went with Matt – and as luck would have it, Matt brought along Juan (whose work we’d raved about too), as well as Deborah.  It really was the dream team – and our guests were super impressed.

And…. we are very grateful and happy to report that we’re the first couple to benefit from the amazing promotion that Del Sol and Le Reve are jointly conducting!  (The bride and groom get 2 additional nights at Le Reve for free, plus a lifetime discount – of I think 30% at Le Reve; and Del Sol gives an additional hour of photography coverage for free.)  We had chosen Le Reve as our hotel, and Del Sol as our photographer, separately – but, it turns out that the two had launched this incredible promotion.  Anyway, please see below for our detailed review of Del Sol and Le Reve.

Hotel (Le Reve Hotel).  Overall grade: A+

All in all, we could not have imagined a more perfect place to have our wedding.  It was a perfect place for us and our guests – intimate, romantic, with a great look that combines modern style with Caribbean rustic charm (like the palapa roof, upon which singing birds had built some nests).  We had a couple of guests who are very finicky, picky, and highly critical – and they too were thoroughly impressed by and more than satisfied with Le Reve.  One of our guests is particularly fastidious about design (interior design, decoration, etc.) – one of those people who spends two years doing and re-doing his kitchen until it’s exactly the way he envisioned it – and he walked into his room and said there’s not a single thing that he’d do differently.  Which is the first time I’d ever heard that come out of his mouth.  The look of the place is one thing, a very good thing, but it’s the people who work there that make the hotel a warm and inviting place.  The staff at the hotel is exceptionally kind and attentive.

We occupied 17 of the 25 rooms at the hotel.  There were about 4 other couples who weren’t part of the wedding throughout our stay.  So, the hotel very much felt like it was ours – and that really added to the comfort level for our whole group.  At breakfast we would ask the servers to put tables together as guests would come down to the restaurant, growing from 3 tables to 4 to 5 to 6 tables.  It was kind of like having a lovely villa to ourselves.

One thing we really appreciated about Le Reve is that they are very flexible.  I don’t think you can get that level of flexibility with a big hotel.  They don’t have the kind of rigid adherence to guidelines/policy that you see at big hotels.  For example, we wanted to put candles in the pool for the wedding reception.  But we didn’t buy out the hotel, so that would mean other guests wouldn’t be able to use the pool.  So, the hotel asked the non-wedding guests if they could refrain from using the pool that night.  They also suggested that they go into town that night – as we would be using the restaurant for the reception.  One couple took issue with not being able to use the pool, but Le Reve had an open room and upgraded them – which satisfied that couple.  We got our candles in the pool – and it was lovely.  In addition, we brought our little dog with us.  Technically, dogs aren’t allowed on the beach in Mexico – but we sure saw a lot of dogs on the beach (all along the beach, in Playa del Carmen too), on and off the leash.  And the hotel didn’t say anything when we took our dog for walks on the beach.

Housekeeping did a great job.  They did some really sweet things for us as the wedding couple.  On the wedding night, they folded towels into the shape of two swans and had rose petals leading from the door to the bed.  They also tied the curtains into a lovely ribbon/bow shape (hard to explain – but it was artistic and romantic).  The next night they folded a towel into the shape of a cute rabbit.  The things people can do with a towel – I had no idea.

Barbeque on the beach (rehearsal dinner): A+

(It should be noted that the couple writing this review are dictionary definition foodies who live in New York, whose tv viewing habits predominantly consist of watching things like “The Best Thing I Ever Ate”, “Top Chef”, etc.. You get the idea…)

We had a barbeque on the beach of Le Reve for our rehearsal dinner, and it was spectacular, just incredible – and not just in our opinion, but in the shared opinion of our guests.  Everything was just perfect perfect perfect.  The weather was perfect – cool and comfortable with steady refreshing breezes off the ocean.  There was a stunning, near-full moon that rose over the ocean, whose reflection glittered on the Caribbean.  The food that the hotel grilled for us (steak, chicken, chorizo, shrimp), the rice and beans, guacamole, etc. was delicious.  The deserts were superb.  Hubby said the chocolate cake served that night that might have been the single best cake, maybe even single best desert, he’d ever eaten – until he had the wedding cake the next evening.  We laughed, clinked bottles of cervesa and margaritas, and marveled at the moon sparkling off the ocean.  After the barbeque, we all went into the pool and the good times continued.

The hotel offers a barbeque (or tacos night) on the beach (which involves a $150 license fee to set up on the beach) or on the grass by the spa/exercise room.  We opted to do it on the beach – and I think the extra cost is well worth it.

Hotel Wedding Coordinator (Arlenis): A+

Arlenis really is the best.  We can’t say enough good things about her.  She made the whole experience so much better.  She is so sweet, tactful, bright, thoughtful and energetic!  She made our guests feel very welcome – and impressed us all with her memory of everyone’s names.  She was a very tactful go-between when we were negotiating with the hotel about the contract.  We really appreciated the role she played there.  Arlenis offered to help us put together OOT bags – and went to Walmart and bought snacks and water for that purpose.  Arlenis made many helpful suggestions and raised questions regarding little details we hadn’t thought of.  Our guests were unanimously of the opinion that Arlenis was a major major factor in making the wedding, and the whole time at Le Reve, incredible.  Thank you Arlenis!  When you visit New York, you have to spend time with us.  Le Reve is really lucky to have her.

Wedding Reception Food: A+

The wedding reception dinner really impressed us.  It was by far the best food at any wedding we’d ever been to, for sure.  The food was better than we remember from the tasting we’d done.  We went with a shrimp appetizer that was superb – maybe the best thing we’d had while at the hotel.  The rack of lamb was really excellent, as was the steak.  The sea bass was good.  All in all, our guests raved about the quality of the dinner.  And overall, they really liked the food at the hotel.  (The ribeye on the dinner menu is inexplicably tender.  I really don’t know how that’s possible – but it’s amazing and highly recommended.  One thing we wish we’d known was that you can order off the Mayan menu.  But you have to put in your order 24 hours ahead of time.  Next time we will definitely be ordering Mayan dishes too.)  We can’t comment on the canapés that we served at the cocktail hour because we didn’t have any – we were doing photos on the beach with our photographer…

Wedding Cake (made by Le Reve): A+

I was worried about the wedding cake.  When we were at the site visit, we tried some cakes; and the chocolate cake was so good.  Tremendous.  But the hotel doesn’t do fondant.  And while fondant may not contribute to the way a cake tastes, it certainly gives that slick, elegant look that I’ve come to associate with wedding cakes.  If you want fondant, you gotta go with an outside vendor – and the price goes up exponentially.  Taste was important to us; and the cake was going to be the desert, so we just had to go with the chocolate cake with white frosting.  We asked Arlenis to ask the chef to please make the frosting as smooth as possible; and it turned out just fine.  The cake was amazing.  Even better than I remember from the tasting.  Many of our guests said the wedding cake and the chocolate cake from the barbeque (which was very similar) were the absolute best cakes they’ve ever had.  Hubby said the wedding cake was probably the single greatest desert he had ever consumed.  Hubby is currently sad that there is no more wedding cake to eat.

Flowers: Laura at Premium Flores: A+

We met with Laura during our site visit.  She brought many samples and showed us what she could do.  It cost around $35 (which is returned to you if you end up hiring Premium Flores), and was well worth it.  Laura is a really sweet lady, and I felt very comfortable with her.  I showed Laura photos of the kind of style we were going for (copy/pasted from the internet), and explained how our theme was white, green and gold; and she said yes to everything – with some suggestions (to stay within our budget).  One great thing about Laura is that she does not have a minimum.  Other florists do – as you brides will find out.  Since our wedding party was small, we didn’t think we needed a huge amount of flowers. When the wedding day arrived, we were so impressed.  It was just lovely, really lovely.   The flowers were so so fresh and they lasted a long time.  I just cannot cannot stop raving about the spectacular job Laura did.  She made excellent recommendations about flowers, and how to maximize the look we wanted and stay within the budget.  She just knocked our socks off, completely. I had shown Laura some images of candles that I really liked, and asked her to do something like that.  I thought maybe I should bring candles to Mexico with me (since I didn’t know what kind of candles Laura would be bringing, and whether they’d be the kind we liked) – and it turned out that she brought candles that were just perfect.  They looked like the candles from the images I’d sent; and they complemented the flowers just right. Did I mention how fresh the flowers were?  The wedding was on Sunday, and the bouquet (and other flowers) were still good on Wednesday (for our TTD with Del Sol).

Audio (microphone/speakers/music during reception): I don’t remember the name of the vendor. Arlenis arranged everything and we decided to use them at the last minute.  No complaints here.  To be honest, I wasn’t very aware of the music and all of that.  The microphones and speakers worked just fine for the ceremony and the speeches.  In Arlenis we trust – and she took care of everything.

Make-up and Hair: Fernando (and sorry-I-forgot-his-name): A+

I did a good amount of research on make-up artists.  Those of you who are doing or have done research on make-up artists in the Playa area probably know of Fernando.  The reviews are right on.  Fernando is not just talented; he is a sweet and genuine guy, someone that makes you feel super comfortable.  I picked Fernando prior to the site visit (which preceded the wedding by two months), and I did a make-up trial with him then.  Thankfully – Fernando was available for my wedding (which was on a Sunday, which was probably why he was available on short notice).  He did a great job, and it was a wonderful experience that left me super pleased to have chosen him.  Subsequently, I decided to do my make-up for the wedding differently.  And on the wedding day, Fernando delivered again.  He was so kind and positive; and on one’s wedding day (and actually, any day), having such a person of good vibrations around is a blessing.  The makeup – and this is important, ladies – stayed on for a long time, looked great even after many hours in the humidity and heat.  I was worried about how long the makeup would last – but at the site visit makeup trial, and at the wedding (and also the TTD with Del Sol), the makeup stayed on.  Now, I feel very bad, terrible actually, because I cannot remember the name of the sweet fellow whom Fernando brought along to do my hair.  Please forgive me!  But the hairdresser was also super talented and incredibly kind and sweet.  If you are looking for a top notch make-up person and hairdresser, these guys should be at the top of your list of prospects.  They are wonderful, and they are very lovely human beings too.

Photographer: Del Sol Photography (Matt and Juan and Deborah): A+

With all the research we’d done about photographers, we felt pretty darn comfortable that we’d gone with someone whose style and vision we could totally rely on. Matt came to the hotel on the afternoon of the wedding, with Juan and Deborah, and – to me, and some friends – it seemed as if the Del Sol team had swooped in like a SWAT team commando unit – armed with all kinds of sophisticated gear, moving with swift proficiency.  One minute they arrive; and the next second, literally, the pro’s are showing us how it’s done.  Matt and Deborah shot me getting ready; and Juan went with hubby.

It’s one thing to be an expert photographer, but it’s another thing to be a warm human being with positive energy, who contributes value (in all senses of the word) on a special day like a wedding day.  Matt, Deborah and Juan were both.  As the spectacular images they shot demonstrate, their work as photographers is undeniable, but they were kind, energetic, passionate, charming, and fun.

Our guests were very impressed with them - and one of our guests is a professional photographer too (and he was the one who was impressed most of all).  We really appreciate that Matt and Juan took a lot of photos of our guests.  The wedding goes by in a blur and swirl of emotions; and now, as we go through the images, we’re able to laugh and see so much we didn’t notice at the time.

And we so appreciate that Matt, Deborah and Juan were just so into shooting the wedding!  They said they were really enjoying our wedding (and we believe it); and that really added to the whole vibe.  Thank you Matt for taking so many photos of our little doggy!

Thank you for taking so many photos of our guests hugging one another.  Thank you Juan for getting such incredible shots of little details, of the flowers, the beach, and the many smiles and laughs erupting that day!

The weekend in Mexico was so special for our group; and many of the guests did not know one another prior to the wedding, but they bonded so tightly; and there was this continuous vibration of love and appreciation throughout our time there.  The photos really catch that love and affection that was shared by our group.  I can’t praise them enough.  We also did a TTD session with Matt and Deborah (which was simply incredible for which we’ll post our review elsewhere on the BDW forum).

Conclusion

In conclusion, we had a really amazing time.  If you’re looking for an intimate place for a romantic wedding, Le Reve might be the place for you.  The service, the warm vibes, the attentiveness and attention to detail was first class.  We can’t wait to go back and visit Le Reve again (and see Arlenis again).  And our guests are huge huge fans of Le Reve now as well. And if you want stunning, drop dead gorgeous photos, from photographers with energy, charm and passion, turn to Del Sol.  I have no idea how long Le Reve and Del Sol will continue their joint promotion – but it’s an incredible deal, and we can’t speak more highly about it.  We just feel like we hit the jackpot in receiving it!  Le Reve is just such a special hotel – and hubby and I can’t wait to go back (and avail ourselves of the 30% discount!  Woohooo!)  For make-up and hair, check out Fernando (and sorry-I-forget-his-name).  For flowers, I highly recommend Laura (we picked her because Arlenis recommended her – and I’m just amazed that she isn’t famous, as she should be). They all helped to make our wedding magical.

My FH, parents, sister and I returned from our site visit with le Reve just over a week ago and we are still in LOVE!  It is every bit as beautiful as the reviews say and every person we came in contact with was wonderful.  I'm going to do the review somewhat chronologically so that it makes sense to me...

Arrival

The Cancun airport was fine, save the very very long line for immigration.  It seems as though a few different flights arrive around the same time (1-3pm) and so it gets a bit crazy.  Make sure you allow extra time in your planning to accomodate for that.  We rented a car, but le Reve does also provide airport transfers for a fee, so that is another option.  The drive down to Le Reve was easy, mainly highway.  As many others have mentioned, the last 2-3 minutes of the drive is over a road with many, many potholes.  Not a huge inconvenience, just something that is good to be aware of.  FH likened it to driving over moon craters, but as long as you take it slow it's not a problem at all.

Once we walked up to the reception/lobby area of le Reve we all just melted.  It is stunning.  You look out over the pool and then straight out to the ocean.  FH had not wanted to talk much about the wedding before our visit, but when he saw that view, he just hugged me and said "this is it."  I couldn't help but melt!

View from Lobby

Arlenis, the wedding coordinator, was there to greet us immediately.  She helped us get settled in our rooms and said she could meet with us at any time.  Once we unpacked, we met with her for about an hour.  She was so super helpful and had tons of information for us!  She had all kinds of pictures and ideas.  Once we started getting overwhelmed with all the information, she let us think on it and told us she'd answer any questions we had the next day at our tasting.

Rooms

We all stayed in their horizon suites.  The rooms were perfect - minimal yet comfortable.  These rooms were on the second floor had a balcony with two chairs overlooking the garden area.  The shower has glass doors and the shower head is directly overhead like a rain shower.  You get turn down service every night, and they leave a dessert on your bed :) One night it was flan, another night it was a coconut pastry, you never knew what delicious sweets would be on your bed that night!

Arlenis also showed us all the other suites.  The garden suites were laid out just like the horizon suites, but were on the lowest level with balconies leading out to the garden.

The master suite was our favorite - these suites are on the third floor and there are only two of them.  They are bigger, they have a canopy over the bed, a great big bathroom and a massive balcony overlooking the ocean, the balcony is big enough to throw a party!  We ended up having our massages up here because it was raining and the outdoor area was too wet.

The last type of room is the bungalows. These are on the main level as well, but right on the beach; separate from the main hotel building, accessible by a pathway through the garden.  The layout is similar to the horizon and garden suites, but you get an extra sink, a slightly bigger bathroom area, a canopy over the bed and (the best part) sliding glass doors that lead out to your own private plunge pool and then out to the beach.  Sigh...

Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures of the rooms, but the pictures on their website are very accurate.  All the rooms are lovely, you can't go wrong with any of them.

Tasting

Mariana, Arlenis' assistant, emailed us two months before our visit to ask if we would like to have a tasting while we were visiting, and of course we said yes!  The price was $50 US a plate, very very reasonable for the amount of food that we got!  We did our tasting on Friday afternoon at 1pm and it wasn't over until 5pm!  We got to try every course as well as four different cocktails to help us decide on signature drink for the cocktail hour.  Arlenis stayed with us the whole time, taking notes and talking about different options for food, settings for each portion of the wedding (ceremony, cocktail hour, reception).  She took note of everything we talked about (very stealthily, I might add) and worked it all into a spreadsheet for us.  That was so helpful to see everything laid out, especially with any and all customizations we had.  For example, we were a bit concerned about the open bar prices, so Arlenis suggested we have two signature cocktails for cocktail hour, serve wine with dinner and then have an open bar for the rest of the night, then included that in her spreadsheet so we could see the difference in price.  She is flat-out awesome.  Aaaanyway, back to the food...

Antonio, the bar manager, orchestrated this food fest; making drinks and explaining each plate as it came out.  We had five courses: canapes, salads/soups, first course, intermezzo, main course, and dessert.  Food is really important to FH and I, so it was going to take a lot to impress us.  le Reve rose to the occasion.  I'll go through each course with pictures:

Canapes:

So, so tasty.  These were all traditional Mexican foods and each one was delicious.  Out of the 6 we tasted, we picked five for our wedding.

Salads/Soups:  Also great!  We loved the Caesar salad and the traditional lime soup.  We thought that soup might not be a good idea because it was a hot day, but it was so delicious that we didn't care!  It is light, like a chicken soup broth, but full flavored with lime and cilantro, the tortilla chips add a good crunch and corn flavor.

First Course:

Intermezzo:

Mandarin sorbet all the way!  It was light and refreshing, a good palate cleanser between the larger courses.

Main course:  We loved loved loved the chicken with guajillo chile, but were not as wild about the steak option.  When FH told Arlenis that he'd enjoyed the arrachera steak he had at dinner the night before, she told us they could easily add that to our wedding menu instead.  We are so excited that they are flexible enough to allow us to have anything we like!

DSC01626.JPG

Desserts:  We had the flan and the tres leches cake, and they were still knocking it out of the park with the flavors!  Just amazing.  We picked the tres leches for our wedding cake, but I might ask if they can bring me a piece of flan on the side :)

Drinks:

We had the Mayan margarita, mango margarita, berry caipirinha, kiwi caipirinha and a lime/vodka drink.  We were very happy by the end :)  They were all great, the berry one was a bit sweet for my taste though.  The Mayan margarita uses a local liquor flavored with anise seed and it is delicious!  The sweetness of the anise cuts the sting of the tequila.  We're deciding between mojitos (which are also amazing at le Reve), the Mayan margaritas and mango margaritas for our signature drinks.

On top of all the amazing food and service, this was our view during the tasting:

Life does not get much better!

Service

The service was always wonderful!  It wasn't in-your-face, but if you needed anything, you got it.  I think this is best exemplified by something we watched from the pool on Friday morning.  A couple on their honeymoon had found a coconut on the beach and were trying to open it so they could eat it.  A couple of the bartenders and waiters saw this and grabbed the tools to help them.  They opened the coconut and made the couple a snack out of it!  They added various spices and juices to bring out the flavors.

Antonio went above and beyond to make sure we had a good time.  His energy never waned through our four hour tasting and he took any suggestions we had or tweaks we wanted to make with grace.  He chatted with us later that night at the bar and even gave us a free shot of tequila!

Mariana, Arlenis' assistant, was wonderful leading up to our site visit.  She always answered my emails promptly and was the one to suggest the tasting!  I was so impressed by that.  Unfortunately, I missed her while we were down there, but she checked in via email once we'd returned home.

Sadly, FH and I had to cut our trip short because our dog ran away from our dogsitter's house (she's home now, safe and sound!).  Concierge was very understanding and even let me use their computer to list my lost dog on various websites!  They have an iPad they lend out to guests generally, but I needed to upload pictures so they let me use the computer behind their desk.  They also arranged for a last minute transfer to the airport on Monday morning.

I cannot say enough about Arlenis!  She listened to all our concerns, desires, questions and followed through with everything promptly.  She was so friendly and full of ideas and suggestions.  I feel completely confident planning my wedding with her long distance, I know everything will get done and she will do a beautiful job.  She showed us programs and schedules other brides had made, place cards, all kinds of pictures with ideas for decorations.  It was all so helpful, she really knows the space and what looks good.  She also has a list of vendors that she uses, so you don't have to worry about finding a hairdresser or a DJ, etc.

We are crossing our fingers that we can get enough guests to fill this hotel!  We love the idea of having the place to ourselves for the weekend, just have one big house party to celebrate our marriage!

And now, a few gratuitous pictures..
